The Elder Scrolls VI has its official title at last, and it is the one players had already worked out. Bethesda confirmed during its 40th anniversary celebrations on November 3 that the game is titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, matching the previously reported name ahead of its official reveal.
The confirmation came inside a video marking 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios, which closed with the new title and logo. Bethesda Game Studios followed up by stating the full title plainly, ending eight years of the game going by nothing more than a number.
A separate name reveal video keeps the presentation minimal, with sand blowing across the screen before the title appears. It closes on a passage attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate."

The location half of the reveal matters as much as the name. Sentinel is a city in Hammerfell, the Redguard homeland on Tamriel's western coast, and Bethesda described the announcement as revealing the name and location together, confirming where the series heads next.
Bethesda thanked players in its follow-up message, writing: "Thank you for 40 years of shared memories. We can't wait to make even more together with The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel." The studio added that development continues, and that it feels great to finally reveal the name and location.
The answer lands almost exactly when last week's report pointed to. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim turns 15 on November 11, and the reported November window for the name reveal has now played out on schedule.
It also closes out one of the stranger decoding efforts in recent memory. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma referred to the game in August with its subtitle hidden behind eight asterisks, and players later split the employee number on Starfield's character creation screen into letter pairs that spelled out Sentinel.
Bethesda first announced the game at E3 2018 with a short teaser showing a mountainous landscape and a logo. The eight years since have brought almost no official detail, which is why a name and a setting count as the biggest update the project has had.
No release window or platforms were announced with the title, and Bethesda has cautioned that it will be some time before it is ready to share more. For now, The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel has a name, a logo and a destination, with the longer wait still ahead.
