The Elder Scrolls 6 ranks among Microsoft’s most highly-anticipated games as a major open-world role-playing title from Bethesda Game Studios that has remained largely mysterious since its original announcement more than eight years ago. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently shared details after taking part in a live playthrough of the long-awaited project during a visit that allowed her to observe the game in action. The session offered her a direct look at the current state of development and the overall presentation of the experience still years into production at the studio known for expansive fantasy worlds.

She followed the demonstration with a clear assessment of what stood out during the session. “The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater,” Sharma noted in her remarks on the experience she had just witnessed firsthand.

Over on her X account, Sharma included asterisks within the pos, when she wrote about the full title of the game she had just seen. The Elder Scrolls 6 is indeed likely to have a subtitle, given that every mainline entry in the series has carried one, from The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall through The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The eight asterisks used in the post specifically suggest the possibility of an eight-letter addition following the core title designation.

Speculations have centered on the idea that the subtitle could be the name of one of the regions of Tamriel, the continent that has served as the primary setting for the long-running series. However, the subtitle of the fourth mainline Elder Scrolls game, Oblivion, has nothing to do with any regions in the franchise’s world and instead refers to a plane of existence central to that installment’s story and overall narrative focus.

Bethesda provided updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 during the middle of the year as part of a broader note on studio priorities and progress. The studio acknowledged it understands “it’s been a very long wait for the sequel.” Officials then outlined the current status by stating “The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day.”
