After a long wait, the first two episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte premiered on Disney+ on Tuesday, June 4. Starting with a major death and a revelation of a massive twist, it showed Amandla Stenberg’s Mae as a skilled, Force-sensitive assassin and a formidable fighter. However, her great fighting abilities left viewers with a big question: who could be Mae’s Master?

Warning: Major spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.

The Acolyte Episode 1, Lost / Found, commenced with an epic battle between Mae and Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss). With their well-choreographed fight, not to mention Mae’s ability to dodge Indara’s attack, the Jedi Master couldn’t help but ask who trained the Jedi killer. Unfortunately, their battle ended with the shocking death of Indara after Mae distracted her and hit her with her dagger while saving the cantina owner.

Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) asked Mae the same question about her Master while engaging in a fight in The Acolyte Episode 2, Revenge / Justice. Add these to the appearance of a mysterious Sith at the end of Episode 1 on a rocky planet and Mae’s revelation to Qimir (Manny Jacinto) that she needed to please the Master in Episode 2; it was evident that Mae had a Master to serve.

However, two episodes into the series, this Master’s identity remains a mystery. Their scene in Episode 1 was played from a distance, with only the appearance of a red lightsaber confirming they were possibly a Sith or an individual from the dark side. Though it remains to be seen who this Sith could be, there are different theories about their possible identity.

Who is the mysterious Sith in The Acolyte?

Many have been itching to know who the mysterious Sith in The Acolyte is. Though their real identity and Mae’s connection to them will be revealed in future episodes, there are several possibilities on who they could be. It’s also good to note that this Sith is probably the same figure shown in the series’ trailers before its release.

That said, Star Wars fans believe this person may have come from Star Wars Legends after showrunner Leslye Headland earlier revealed that she would incorporate some parts of it into The Acolyte. So, given the show's timeline, there’s a possibility that the mysterious Sith could be Darth Plagueis.

However, knowing he’s of a Muun species and has a distinct appearance of having an oblong-shaped head, some are convinced that he could be Plagueis’ Sith Master, Darth Tenebrous. Knowing for breaking the Rule of Two, Tenebrous may have been training Mae during the High Republic Era and later bringing on Plagueis as his apprentice. But there's also a possibility that the mysterious Sith could be entirely someone else.

In Legends, the other apprentice Tenebrous trained was Darth Venamis. Venamis wasn’t legitimately named a Sith but gave the title to himself. Though a secret apprentice, he, too, could be secretly training Mae and serving as his Master. But if it's not Venamis or Tenebrous, it could also be a new character that The Acolyte would soon introduce.

Fans are advised to take these assumptions with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed yet. With six episodes more in tow, viewers may soon learn the real identity of this mysterious Sith.

The first two episodes of The Acolyte are now available on Disney+. New episodes are set to be released every Tuesday.
