New stories and titles are lined up for Lucasfilm as the galaxy far, far away continues to expand after being in existence for more than four decades. With so much on the studio's plate, some projects remained idle for months, even years, after the announcement. As for Taika Waititi, it was announced in 2020 that he will be making the jump to Star Wars with an untitled movie and three years after, despite not having any update yet, the director reveals that his film is still under development.
Taika Waititi is a filmmaker, actor, and comedian who has a ton of experience in acting and directing under his belt. Some of his most notable works are Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok, and What Do We Do in the Shadows. With such an impressive resume, Waititi gets a film under Lucasfilm's Star Wars announced in 2020 during Disney's Investor's Day and in a recent interview with ETOnline, Waititi shares an update on his Star Wars movie:
Waititi is no stranger to the Star Wars lore as he already directed an episode of The Mandalorian, the season finale titled Chapter 8: Redemption, and he even voiced a character, IG-11. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy spoke to ETOnline in April this year confirming that Waititi's movie with Lucasfilm remains in the works and that they are not rushing it:
Why are there no Star Wars movies at the moment?

When Star Wars started, all the franchise focused on were films and when the studio was later acquired by Disney in 2012, a surge of Star Wars movies arrived. However, this was a mistake on the House of Mouse as the rushed movies were brought to life even without a solid foundation like Solo: A Star Wars Story which was taken off of one scene and that did not sit well with the fans, the Star Wars sequel trilogy which was too rushed that it seemed undercooked, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which suffered from criticisms. From these, Lucasfilm may have already learned their lesson of not rushing things.
Currently, Lucasfilm is focusing on their series releases on Disney+ which works for the fans and for the whole narrative of the galaxy far, far away as it fills in the gaps between the movies. It might take a while for Lucasfilm to produce another Star Wars movie but with a few lined up already, a little more time might not hurt so long as the TV shows can sustain the story. So far, the only film with an update is that of Daisy Ridley's Rey film which recently got a script update and could bear the title of A New Beginning. As in the case of Waititi's Star Wars film, there is no rush.
Star Wars' series are all available to stream on Disney Plus.
