The first look at Nick Frost's Star Wars: Skeleton Crew character has finally been revealed today. The Shaun of the Dead star will voice a droid named SM-33, the decrepit first mate of the Onyx Cinder and a droid that accompanies the young space explorers in the series. Skeleton Crew is set to explore never-before-seen parts of the Star Wars galaxy and feature exciting adventures reminiscent of The Goonies, and based on what we've seen so far, we can expect a wide number of extraterrestrial and robotic individuals populating its story, and SM-33 is looking to be joining the ranks of the franchise's fan-favorite droids that include the original Star Wars trilogy's R2-D2, C-3PO, the sequel trilogy's BB_8, and The Mandalorian's IG-11
The sneak peek of Nick Frost's SM-33 was shared by Empire, during an interview with the directors of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The image of SM-33 reveals the droid on a red background with the majority of its body concealed in shadows. However, the silhouette shows that the droid appears to be covered in some type of branches or wire. A bright white light can be seen coming from its right mechanical eye.

Who is SM-33 in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?
While this is our first look at Nick Frost's Skeleton Crew character, star Jude Law revealed back in July that he will voice SM-33 during an interview with People Magazine. Law described SM-33 as a "rusty old, cranky droid that sort of reluctantly helps the kids along the way." He went on to praise Frost's "absolutely perfect" approach to the character, and share a bit of information about the droid's backstory, referring to him as "the first mate of a mysterious ship."
The droid's name SM-33 pays homage to Peter Pan, with the character potentially taking on the personality of Mr. Smee, Captain Hook's first mate. While Mr. Smee was considered a villain, it doesn't seem like SM-33 will be presented that way. “Of course, you were expecting to work with droids and alien species, but you forget that they’re brought to life in front of you by these extraordinary people who have skills, whether it’s puppets or as animatronic experts,” Law said. “You’re surrounded by them because they’re as much a part of the cast as those who are flesh and blood.”
