Several details about Skeleton Crew have been revealed recently, as promotions for the new Star Wars series have finally begun following the end of Star Wars: The Acolyte. Lucasfilm has released its official trailer and new key art at the recent D23 2024 in Anaheim, California, and the show's display features new characters and the return of the Star Wars: The Mandalorian villain Vane. Although the roles of the main cast have been revealed, little is still known about Jude Law’s character, Jod Na Nawood. To shed more light on his role, Law provides additional details about his mysterious character.
Known as a Forcer user, Law earlier described Jod as a quick thinker who uses his charm to escape different scenarios. Now, in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes TV, he added more descriptions of his role, hinting that there’s more to his mysterious character.
“So, I play a character called… Jod. Well, that’s one of his names,” he began. “He is someone they meet and who is there to try and help them back to their home planet.”
As a complete stranger, Jod is unknown to the kids Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), and KB (Kyriana Kratter), who have no idea if he is truthful or if he’s an ally or a foe. However, he will still become part of the crew, though not everyone will like him.
“And you never quite know whether he’s trustworthy, whether he isn’t trustworthy, whether he’s with one side or another… You never quite know,” he teased. “But ultimately, he’s a part of the crew. Some want him a part of it; some don’t want him a part of it.”
However, as Law stressed that he couldn’t give too much away, he stopped describing his character further and only mentioned that he was “full of contradictions.” It appears the actor is hiding something about his role, especially after noting that Jod is just one of his names. He may be much more than he seems, adding even more excitement to Skeleton Crew.
Jude Law Praises Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’s Episode DirectorsTop of Form
Skeleton Crew will consist of eight episodes and will be directed by a talented and diverse group of directors. Bryce Dallas Howard returns to the Star Wars universe after directing episodes of The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett. She is joined by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, a.k.a. The Daniels (Everything Everywhere All at Once), David Lowery (The Green Knight, Peter Pan & Wendy), Jake Schreier (Marvel Studios' upcoming Thunderbolts), and Lee Isaac Chung (Twisters). With these impressive directors on board, Law has nothing but high praise for them.
“David Lowery is, in many ways, like Peter Pan himself. I worked with him on Peter Pan & Wendy, and he brings this beautiful energy and magic,” he said in the same interview. “The Daniels are funny, anarchic, kind of left of field, but their episode is really moving. It quite surprised me.”
He continued by saying that Howard was a “huge embrace and collaborative,” while Chung surprisingly made him laugh the most. He also teased that Schreier directed one of the best episodes, calling his work “really brilliant.” Of course, as the series co-creator, he also had good words for Jon Watts.
“Jon, first of all, was the leader of the pack because it was his show,” he said. “Generous, fun, really kind of challenging in creating a real sense of jeopardy for the kids, so the kids really knew this was serious stuff.”
With the mystery surrounding Law’s character and these impressive episodic directors, Skeleton Crew is becoming increasingly exciting. Since Star Wars is known for featuring incredible plot twists, there may be a big reveal about Jod that fans will soon discover when the show premieres.
Skeleton Crew is set to be released on Disney+ on December 3.
