The promotions for Star Wars’ upcoming new series, Skeleton Crew, have started, and the show will be a big part of Lucasfilm’s presentation at D23 2024. The franchise teased surprising announcements and exclusive new content, among many others, at the event, and it has now begun with a first look at the series’ display.  But instead of the main cast, led by Jude Law, it features new characters and the return of Star Wars: The Mandalorian villain, Vane.

X user @CineMundoUs shared a couple of images of the Skeleton Crew display at D23. The display features four characters, including Vane, who will be the new big threats in the series. One is a wolf-looking creature, many assumed a Shistavanen, while another is a cow-like alien. The three are accompanied by a droid, which is believed to be SM-33 and will be voiced by Nick Frost.

Given Skeleton Crew is set at the same time as The Mandalorian, five years after Richard Marquand’s 1987 Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, it’s no surprise that it will see Vane’s return to the small screen. By the looks of it, the Nikto pirate is joined by his own pirate crew, who may bring trouble to the lives of Jod Na Nawood (Law) and his young crew, Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), KB (Kyrianna Kratter), Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), and Fern (Ryan Kiera).

Who is Vane in Star Wars: The Mandalorian?

Vane (Marti Matulis) was introduced in The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1, The Apostate. He was a member of Gorian Shard’s gang. Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) confronted him and his fellow pirates after trying to enter a school to drink while on the volcanic planet of Nevarro.

But that didn’t stop the group from returning to Nevarro and taking control of the city. He later faced Djarin again after the latter attacked Shard’s ship. As Vane and his squadron chased Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) came to the rescue and attacked them in her fighter.

What to Expect from Vane in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Vane has proven to be a formidable foe in The Mandalorian, so the same can be expected when he appears in Skeleton Crew. However, compared to Djarin, one of the franchise's most skilled bounty hunters and fighters, the new series' young characters may be more vulnerable when facing Vane and his crew.

But with Nawood by their side, he may use his Force ability against this group of villains and defend the kids. His character is also described as “a quick-thinker who uses his charm” to escape various scenarios. Though his charm may not work on them, his wit can definitely be an advantage.

So far, little detail is known about Skeleton Crew, but that’s about to change at D23. So, aside from Vane and his crew, more will be seen as the event runs from August 9 to 11.
