Star Wars: Andor Actor Diego Luna Teases How Big Season 2 Will Be Compared to The First

As Star Wars: Andor Season 2 will cover four years of Cassian Andor's life before the events of Rogue One, fans can expect it to be much bigger than the first season.

Cassian Andor’s full story will finally be told in Star Wars: Andor Season 2. From a listless criminal, he has become an official member of the Rebel Alliance and is about to learn the ways of the Rebellion, leading to the events of Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As the series draws closer to what is considered one of the best Star Wars films, it will also feature the return of Alan Tudyk's K-2SO, Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera, and Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic. Following lead star Diego Luna’s revelation that the second season will change how viewers perceive the 2016 film, he now teases that it will be four times bigger than the first season.

The official X page of Star Wars shared a video of Luna talking about Andor Season 2 while speaking in Spanish. As many eagerly await the continuation of Cassian’s adventure in the galaxy far, far away, he says they’re almost ready to share the new season with viewers. He also hints at what’s in store for his character when the show returns, suggesting it will be much bigger than what fans saw before.

“What you saw in the first season, well, imagine it multiplied by four,” he said.

The first season featured a few relatively self-contained story arcs, focusing on Cassian, his encounter with Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), and his journey to becoming a Rebel Alliance member. Originally planned as a five-season series before it was confirmed that the second season would be its last, the final season will include time jumps to cover four years of Cassian’s life and work for the Rebellion as it nears the events of Rogue One.

“In the first season, we only traversed a year of Andor’s life,” Luna continued. “In this second season, we’ll see four years. Four years before Rogue One starts.”

Andor Season 2 will showcase Cassian’s full transformation into a rebel determined to sacrifice everything for the Rebellion. To excite fans even more, Luna also mentions that the series will be released soon.

“So, get ready because Andor is coming very soon,” he added.

When will Star Wars: Andor Season 2 will be released?

Though Lucasfilm has already announced that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is scheduled to drop on December 3, Andor Season 2 has no official release date yet. The new season began filming in November 2022, but production was halted due to the WGA strike, and only two weeks of filming remained at that time. Production officially wrapped in February 2024, with Luna himself sharing the news on Instagram.

“Today is the last day of filming Andor. I could not be more thankful to the entire crew for this amazing experience and the years of hard work.”

So, with the Mexican actor’s hint, there is a possibility that Andor Season 2 could be released early next year. With only four months remaining until 2024 ends, his comment may suggest that the wait for the show’s return will soon be over, potentially as early as January or February 2025.

To support this, Hasbro action figures of the series' characters are set to be released in Winter 2024. The franchise is known for strategically releasing these figures, as seen with the release of Star Wars: The Acolyte’s Hasbro figures two months before the show premiered in June. Therefore, if Andor follows a similar pattern, the second season could be out by February 2025 at the latest.

Anyhow, fans should take this assumption with a grain of salt, as Lucasfilm has unexpectedly delayed the release of its movies and series in the past. But as Luna suggests, fans can trust that Andor Season 2 is on its way.
