The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been on a wild ride for quite some time with the fans starting to feel the MCU fatigue which has been affecting the franchise for a while now. Still, there are some of MCU's projects that becomes a hit, reviving the franchise to its former glory like the anthology series What If...? which made everyone think twice about the narrative of the MCU that they know. Rumors now swirl around Star Wars reportedly developing a similar series to Marvel's What If...?.
Marvel's What If...? has been one of MCU's saving graces over the years that the MCU fatigue has been plaguing the franchise. The animated anthology series tweaks the events in the MCU on what could have happened had things went differently and so far, it is working for the MCU. While it was a risk to bet on animated series, Marvel Studios was successful in bringing two seasons of the show already. Now, in a report from insider Daniel Richtman, he claims that Disney is developing a series similar to What If...? for Star Wars which could reimagine how the franchise would have turned out if things went differently, some huge questions like "What If... Ben Solo never became Kylo Ren?" or "What If... Din Djarin became a Jedi?"
Take this as a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed yet. Surely, there must have been a ton of ideas for these scenarios within the walls of Disney for Star Wars. Recently, What If...? director and executive producer Bryan Andrews revealed that Disney axed the idea of having a Marvel and Star Wars crossover. With this new rumor, this could have been the reason why a huge crossover would be rejected -- because Disney may have already been working for a What If...? styled show for Star Wars.
Is Marvel's What If Season 3 happening?
On the other side of the news, Marvel has already confirmed that What If Season 3 is happening on their side of the court. What If has proven itself to be a self-sustaining series which could go on and on for many seasons with just a few tweaks to the stories that everyone knows of. The MCU proudly made the announcement with a clip of a possible episode in the upcoming third season of the anthology series.
The clip reveals Bucky in a car with the Red Guardian as they try to cross a border. Unfortunately, they did not pass through with smiles, so they tried with the best idea that they could come up with -- a car chase. During the chase, Bucky continues to use guns despite the Red Guardian's opposition to it. In the end, the two managed to escape before the title of What If Season 3 drops and teases that it will be coming soon.
Marvel's What If Season 3 has no release date yet. All the episodes of the first two seasons are available to stream on Disney Plus.
