The Marvel Cinematic Universe opened its doors to various possibilities upon its introduction of the Multiverse Saga where an infinite set of realities could be explored. This is best seen in What If...? which ponders on the titular question with the stories that everyone knows having twists and turns. Because of the flexibility of the narratives that could be delivered by the animated series, the director of What If...? reveals that there was supposed to be a Marvel and Star Wars crossover but Disney rejected their idea.
Marvel's What If...? reimagines the MCU in different perspectives as it brings upon a new touch in the stories that everyone knows in the main MCU and what could have happened if things did not turn out according to plan. With Marvel and Star Wars IPs both under Disney, the possibility of having a crossover could have worked but that did not happen as Disney seemingly did some gatekeeping on the idea of having the two franchises in a crossover. This was revealed by What If...? director and executive producer Bryan Andrews in an interview with Moovy TV:
Andrews confirmed that there was, indeed, a TIE Fighter in What If...? Season 1 Episode 2 which slipped from the sights of Disney but to have a deliberate crossover between the two franchises was a big "no" to the House of Mouse. But, what if Marvel and Star Wars did a crossover? This could happen in Marvel's What If...? given the flexibility of the stories that could be told in the show.
Will there be Marvel's What If...? Season 3?
Much to the delight of the viewers of Marvel's What If...? who are curious as to what happens had things went differently in the MCU, the series has been confirmed for a third season within a week after the release of the final episode of What If...? Season 2. In a clip released by Marvel Studios on New Year's Day, the MCU fans were given a present with the confirmation that What If...? Season 3 is definitely happening. The video is titled A Look Into The Future where the Red Guardian and the Winter Soldier went into the US and ended up in a high-speed car chase with the authorities.
Marvel's What If...? Season 2 ended with Captain Carter teaming up with Uatu the Watcher in saving more universes. Captain Carter was a recurring character in What If...? since its first season and the series continued making her "a hero out of time and times." It is expected that Captain Carter will be back for the third installment of the series.
All Marvel's What If...? Season 2 episodes are now available to stream on Disney Plus.
