Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Blu-ray Title Suggests Series May Not Continue

As Lucasfilm and Disney titled the Blu-ray set of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi as a 'complete series,' it looks they have no plans to continue the show.

It has been nearly two years since fans have waited for the return of the legendary Jedi Master in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2. However, instead of a second-season renewal, Lucasfilm and Disney announced the coming of its Collector’s Edition on 4K UHD and Blu-ray. Though this is welcoming news for fans, it also seems to suggest that the series may not continue after its cover refers to it as a “complete series.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Star Wars: Andor will receive its 4K UHD and Blu-ray sets, which will be available on April 30, with new bonus features and exclusive concept art cards. However, compared to Andor, which SteelBook packaging title is Andor: The Complete First Season, Obi-Wan Kenobi is billed as Obi-Wan Kenobi: The Complete Series. Add to that Disney+ calls it a limited series; it looks like there’s no plan for this show to continue.

However, fans shouldn’t lose their hope for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2. With the first season's success, receiving critical acclaim and positive reviews, Lucasfilm and Disney may still have a change of heart to develop new episodes for it. Also, its lead star himself, Ewan McGregor, has expressed interest in doing another season.

What are Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Blu-ray’s bonus features?

Though the possibility of not having Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 leaves fans brokenhearted, Lucasfilm and Disney have redeemed themselves by adding bonus features to its Blu-ray release. It will have four featurettes, like the Duels of Fate: Obi-Wan vs. Vader, where its director Deborah Chow, McGregor, and Hayden Christensen examine the battle of the two legendary Jedis.

It will also feature The Dark Times: Villains, which uncovers the lore of the Inquisitors and Darth Vader’s iconic appearance, and Designing The Galaxy, which sees Princess Leia’s favorite sidekick, Lola the Droid, and the planets in the Star Wars universe. Lastly, it will also include the Director’s Commentary, where Chow gives her comments about the action-packed finale.

Will there be Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2?

In the latest update McGregor gave for the potential Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, the actor confirmed that there had been no talks about the show’s return. Though he would love to do a second season, he told Variety there was a lot going on at Disney.

It can’t be denied that Disney currently has a lot on its plate. Aside from the new Star Wars shows coming on Disney+ this year, like Star Wars: Acolyte, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Season 2, it also confirmed Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 and several other movies, such as The Mandalorian & Grogu and a Rey Skywalker-centric film featuring the return of Daisy Ridley.

Though Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t part of the priority, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy made fans hopeful after telling Variety she would “never say never” about it. She stressed there would always be a possibility for a second season after fans had well-received its first installment, and Chow did a good job.
