Ezra Bridger Officially Returns in a New Star Wars: Ahsoka Prequel Series

The Ahsoka finale skipped Ezra Bridger's escape entirely — Star Wars: Ahsoka - Escape From Thrawn finally tells it.

Ezra Bridger was the Jedi Padawan at the heart of Star Wars Rebels, a Force-sensitive Lothal orphan who joined the Ghost crew and trained under Kanan Jarrus. In that show's finale, he boarded Grand Admiral Thrawn's Star Destroyer and let the purrgil carry them both into deep space, vanishing for years before Ahsoka found him stranded on Peridea in another galaxy.

In the Season 1 finale of Ahsoka, Ezra slipped aboard Thrawn's departing flagship disguised as one of the Grand Admiral's Night Troopers and rode it back to the main galaxy. He then stole a shuttle and reunited with Hera Syndulla, but the series never showed how he got off the ship in between. That missing stretch is now being told in Star Wars: Ahsoka - Escape From Thrawn, a Marvel Comics prequel series built on a story by Dave Filoni.

Marvel describes the series as Ezra's daring flight from Peridea, after he "narrowly escaped his exile beyond the known galaxy by stowing away aboard Grand Admiral Thrawn's flagship." Getting off Peridea, it turns out, was only the first step of the journey home.

Hunted across hyperspace with nowhere to hide, Ezra has to evade Captain Enoch and counter the dark magick of the Nightsisters along the way. His real problem is the man commanding the ship, and he must outwit the Empire's greatest strategist "if he hopes to make it off the Chimaera alive."

The comic comes from a story by Dave Filoni, the creator of Ahsoka and Lucasfilm's president and chief creative officer, so the missing chapter carries the showrunner's own version of events. Rodney Barnes writes the series, with art by Andrea Di Vito and a cover by Phil Noto.

Marvel bills the series as a companion to the second season of Ahsoka, which picks up with Thrawn back in the known galaxy and turning his attention to the New Republic. Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, meanwhile, remain stranded on Peridea, the same world Ezra escaped.

In the live-action series, Eman Esfandi plays Ezra Bridger, while Lars Mikkelsen plays Thrawn, reprising the role he first voiced in animation. Esfandi is set to have a much larger presence in the second season, after Ezra appeared in only part of the first.
