The galaxy far, far away is currently packed with a lot of upcoming shows which are already put in place or are under production. However, with so many on the plate of Lucasfilm, some titles are already announced but still without any news. For Star Wars: Lando, the movie was unveiled three years ago and the showrunner reveals a disappointing update on the project.
Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, played Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story where he stole the scene and easily one of the fan-favorites from the movie. Lando Calrissian is known in the galaxy far, far away as a gambler, human smuggler, and entrepreneur who became Cloud City's Baron Administrator. Lando became a general, too, in the Rebel Alliance. After losing to Han Solo, Lando became the leader of Cloud City in Bespin.
Lando encountered various famous characters in the Star Wars lore such as Darth Vader, Han Solo, Princess Leia Organa, Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, and more. In 2020, Lucasfilm announced that there will be Star Wars: Lando under development for Disney+ and Justin Simien was designated as the showrunner of the title. Three years later, Star Wars: Lando is not yet among the upcoming shows or movies of the franchise.
Is Star Wars: Lando cancelled?
Star Wars: Lando is not cancelled yet. However, it still has no release date yet and to date, there's no word yet on when the project would be under production or on what stage it is already. Speaking with TheWrap, showrunner Justin Simien revealed a disappointing update on the title:
It was the first time I had gotten any official confirmation at all about what was happening with Lando . You'd certainly, like, hear rumors. It's a small town. Donald Glover and I have a lot of mutual friends. So I had some idea of possibilities of what might be happening and why we haven't heard from anybody.
Star Wars: Lando is about to be under Disney+ should it push through. Interestingly enough, Justin Simien just worked with Disney with Haunted Mansion which means that the showrunner is just around the area if the studio would give her an update. However, there is still no word given out to her nor any other person involved in the title.
Initially, Star Wars: Lando was supposed to be a miniseries but it was later clarified that it would be a movie. Donald Glover is said to reprise his role from Solo: A Star Wars Story as Lando Calrissian and he is allegedly sharing the project with his brother, Stephen Glover.
