An air of mystery surrounds Daisy Ridley’s new Rey Skywalker-centric Star Wars movie. Speculations are rife, with recent rumors suggesting it could be titled Star Wars: Episode X – A New Beginning. The production is said to be in the works, too, with casting underway for the other three main leads, including the villain and Rey’s two apprentices. As Lucasfilm has remained mum about it, Ridley herself has stepped in to hint at potential character changes that fans might witness.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Ridley teased that viewers might see Rey in a new light in her upcoming Star Wars film a few years after the events of the 2019 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The movie concludes with Rey visiting the moisture farm on Tatooine, where Luke Skywalker grew up and laid to rest his and General Leia Organa’s lightsabers, and later unveiled her own yellow lightsaber. Initially, Ridley felt that her character’s journey had reached its conclusion. However, as time passed, she realized there was more to explore, as her new Star Wars movie would delve into the intervening years, bridging the gap between The Rise of Skywalker and her latest film.

I didn't feel there was a stone left uncovered... So, I felt very satisfied... I started that at 21, and I'm now 31. I feel different... It will be interesting coming in, personally, in a different zone. And, also, in those intervening years from the last film, what has happened, and where has that led Rey to?

Will Daisy Ridley have kids in the Star Wars Rey Skywalker movie?

The gap between The Rise of Skywalker and Ridley’s new Star Wars Rey Skywalker film may feature a different kind of Rey. The film’s concept will see her building a new Jedi Order with a younger generation of Jedis. But though the film may introduce a list of new characters, the actress insists the female Jedi Master won’t have kids yet this time.

“I would say she probably doesn’t have children, seeing she’s a Jedi,” she told Deadline at its SXSW studio.

The 31-year-old added that she knew nothing about the movie, and her knowledge was limited to what was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023. She then revealed she was still waiting to read its script. However, she later admitted to knowing some “bits and bobs,” including introducing new characters.

“I don’t know about previous characters,” she continued.

She also said, via The Wrap, while promoting her new movie, Magpie, that the script was already in the works and she would be “reading it imminently” once it was done. Regarding the filming, Ridley revealed that it might happen this year, though she wasn’t sure.

I think, to be honest, the writers’ strike has obviously delayed quite a lot of things. So, the intention was later this year. Hopefully, it will be. Otherwise, top of next, I would imagine.

What is Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars Rey Skywalker movie about?

Lucasfilm has been keeping the details for its new Star Wars projects under lock and key, and Ridley’s Skywalker movie gets the same treatment. However, in an interview with AlloCiné in 2023, she described it as a “really fantastic exploration” of the franchise’s universe, taking its story on “in a bit of a different direction.”

The film’s director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, also revealed that the film would start with Rey “rebuilding a new Jedi Order” at a Jedi academy. Despite the lack of information, she promised CNN they would create “something very special” and told Variety that it would be “amazing” and worth the fans’ while.

Lucasfilm Debunks Delay Rumors on Daisy Ridley's Star Wars Movie

Ridley’s new Star Wars movie may follow the release of Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is said to kickstart the franchise’s return to the big screen. If the claims are true, it may be out on December 18, 2026. As character changes are not new in the Star Wars universe, especially after what happened to Anakin Skywalker becoming the Dark Lord of the Sith, what Ridley says about her role isn’t far from happening.
