Lucasfilm announced Daisy Ridley’s return to the galaxy far, far away with a new movie centering on her character as Rey Skywalker during the Star Wars Celebration in April 2023. As expected, many got excited about this new project helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, but details about the film remained under wraps. That said, the movie gets surrounded by different assumptions, and the latest in the rumor mill is that it will be called Star Wars: Episode X – A New Beginning. However, one contributor shuts down this claim.
The rumor came from The Cosmic Circus, which confirmed its sources’ claim that Ridley’s Rey Skywalker movie would be called Star Wars: Episode X – A New Beginning, while it had a working title, New Jedi Order. But while this rumor started floating around, StarWars.com contributor Jordan Maison denied the claim and stressed that the title was “categorically incorrect.”
“No other titles have been/are being used at this time,” he tweeted.
However, he verified the working title is true. It was even the same name used when the movie was announced last year. By the looks of it, using an Episode X title is highly unlikely this time, as it might hint at the beginning of another movie trilogy.
Also, the New Jedi Order might not be used as its official working title as it may attract curiosity. The working title serves as a project’s codename for its production to avoid unwanted attention. So, if there is a word “Jedi” in there, it will surely drive a lot of interest.
Elsewhere, The Cosmic Circus also claimed that The Mandalorian & Grogu would have a working title of Thunder Alley, which, according to Wookieepedia, is a region of space in the New Republic. As part of the Star Wars lore, it was mentioned in the Legends novel Before the Storm. However, fans are advised to only take this assumption with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed yet.
What is Daisy Ridley’s new Star Wars film about?
Lucasfilm has yet to reveal the official storyline of Ridley’s new Star Wars film, but it will reportedly follow the events after the 2019 film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It will see Rey as a Jedi Master, planning to build a new Jedi Order by teaching the next generation of Jedis. If this happens, she’s about to fulfill the destiny that the sequel trilogy teased.
In an interview with CNN, Obaid-Chinoy expressed her excitement over this new film and said they were about to create “something very special.” Alternatively, Ridley told Collider that she already knew what the movie was about and assured fans would be “very excited” about it. She also revealed to Variety that Obaid-Chinoy’s idea for the picture was “cool” and called the film “amazing” and “worthwhile.”
Ridley’s new Star Wars movie is believed to be released on December 18, 2026. Whatever the film’s title is, many are surely looking forward to it. So, hopefully, Lucasfilm will soon reveal more details about it.
