Fans may haven’t seen Cal Kestis in any Star Wars movies or series, but he played a major role in the galaxy far, far away. As the Jedi Knight of the Galactic Empire, he has survived the purge that destroyed the Jedi Order, appearing in the two critically acclaimed video games Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. As some wonder if fans will get a chance to see him in live-action, the character’s actor, Cameron Monaghan, reveals his one condition to do so.
In an interview with The Direct at FanExpo Vancouver 2024, Monaghan revealed what he wanted for Cal’s story should the character make his debut in a Star Wars live-action series or movie. By the looks of it, he only wants one thing for Cal, and it’s for the story to be right.
“It would have to be right,” he said.
The 30-year-old model wanted to continue the character’s story in “some way” and not just appear for the sake of fan service, opposing the need for it. He desired to give Cal’s narrative justice and the significance it deserved. Hence, everything must make sense and feature the right context.

Will Cal Kestis appear in any live-action Star Wars project?
So far, there are no words about Cal appearing in any Star Wars project. The most fitting story for the character to show up is Obi-Wan Kenobi, given that it takes place in the same timeline as the Star Wars Jedi games. The series even references his galaxy-hopping adventures. But as the first season has already ended, with no news of a second-season renewal, it remains to be seen if this will still happen.
There is also a possibility that he may appear in other Jedi titles set during the same era, like Andor Season 2. But as nothing is sealed yet, fans have to wait for the possible third Star Wars Jedi game to see what’s next for Cal and if he ever has a future to appear in any Star Wars shows or movies.
Who is Cal Kestiss in the Star Wars universe?
After surviving the Great Jedi Purge following the execution of Order 66, Cal lives in seclusion on the planet of Bracca. But after confronting the Inquisitorius, he starts to resist the Empire, embraces his connection to the Force, and restores the Jedi Order.
He used to work alongside his mentor, Jedi Master Jaro Tapal, in the Clone Wars. But after the Grand Army of the Republic betrayed its Jedi officers, the 13th Battalion’s clone troopers tried to execute Cal for being a traitor to the Galactic Republic. This left Tapal sacrificing himself to save his Padawan, forcing the latter to flee to Bracca. While working as a rigger for the Scrapper Guild, he was discovered by the Second Sister and Ninth Sister, Inquisitors of the Empire.
Though Cal’s future in Star Wars live-action remains to be seen, it looks like Disney is in the works to introduce his character either in a series or in the movie. That said, it may only take time before viewers finally see the Jedi-on-the-run out of the video games.
