Star Wars: Andor Season 2 will lead into the events of Gareth Edwards’ 2016 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story after Cassian Andor finally joined the Rebel Alliance in the first season finale. With the connection between the two being closer than ever, some elements from the movie will factor into the upcoming season, as evidenced by the return of K-2SO, Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera, and Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic, who led the development of the Death Star. As Andor nears its conclusion, lead star Diego Luna teases that Season 2 will change how viewers see Rogue One.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Luna expressed his excitement about seeing the completion of the story arc for the characters first introduced in Rogue One. Disney+ has allowed the actors from the film to revisit and fully develop their characters’ stories in Andor Season 2, providing a deeper exploration of the narratives that began in the movie. Hence, with these new insights, the actor revealed that the final season would permanently change how people view the film.
“I think people watching Rogue One, after watching Season 2, are going to see a different film,” he said.
Luna explained that everything viewers knew about the movie would be “signified differently” after learning what had really happened and why K-2 had to be there. With the return of the KX-series security droid, fans are about to experience the journey in Rogue One in a new way.
“And not just with K-2, but with many other characters,” he continued. “I think it'll be really cool.”
That said, Luna believes that someone from Lucasfilm or Disney will let them watch Andor Season 2 and then rewatch Rogue One as a refresher. While this seems to hint that the movie may be re-released in theaters, that remains to be seen.
For starters, the movie begins with Andor seemingly willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to advance the Rebellion's agenda. However, by the film's end, Andor shows his heroic side, already willing to sacrifice himself to free the galaxy.
Diego Luna Talks About Reunion with K-2SO in Star Wars: Andor Season 2
Originally created for the Imperial Army, K-2 was reprogrammed by Andor to serve the Alliance on the planet of Wecacoe. In Rogue One, the wisecracking robot sacrificed himself so that Andor and Jyn Erso could steal the blueprints for the first Death Star. Becoming an instant fan favorite, many were left heartbroken when K-2 wasn’t part of Andor Season 1. Thankfully, that's about to change, as he will finally return in Andor Season 2.
“What a problem, that droid,” Luna said about his reunion with K-2. “He has no filter. He just talks and says everything he's thinking.”
Aside from reuniting with his movie buddy, the Mexican actor also expressed his excitement about working with Alan Tudyk, who portrayed the droid, again. In fact, for him, being with the 53-year-old star after so many years helped “complete the full circle.”
“It was delicious to get to work with Alan again and be on the same set with him,” he added.
Luna also teased K-2’s story arc in Andor Season 2, which will explain why the droid played such an important role in Rogue One. Not only that, but viewers are about to see how he became a pivotal part of the Rebellion.
By the looks of it, Andor Season 2 is set to reveal more details about the Rebellion’s mission in Rogue One, which will change how viewers perceive the movie. As these projects are considered two of the best in the franchise, fans will need to see how their events connect to conclude the story of the Death Star.
Andor Season 2 is set to be released on Disney+ in 2025.
