Star Wars: Andor Season 2 will lead into the events of the 2016 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story after Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) joined the Rebel Alliance in the first season finale. As Luna confirmed that more Rogue One cameos would be seen in the second and final season, Ben Mendelsohn earlier revealed that he wouldn't reprise his role as Orson Krennic. However, that seems to change when the show’s director, Alonso Ruizpalacios, unknowingly slips up that Mandelson will return as the Imperial director.
In an interview with The Playlist, Ruizpalacios was very careful not to give anything away about Andor Season 2, knowing how Lucasfilm was secretive about its projects. However, when talking about directing some episodes alongside other directors Ariel Kleiman and Janus Metz, he seemed to accidentally mention Mendelsohn’s name along with Stellan Skarsgård and Forest Whitaker, who play Luthen Rael and Saw Gerrera, respectively.
Ruizpalacios revealed that directing all these incredible actors was like a treat, and he seemed not to realize that he had just dropped a major spoiler. This supports Luna’s revelation that more familiar faces from Rogue One will be seen in Andor Season 2 as it transitions into the movie’s story. With Mendelsohn's major role in Gareth Edwards’ film, there’s no way he won’t return to the series.
What will be the Role of Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic in Star Wars: Andor Season 2?
Krennic led the development of the Death Star and forced scientist Galen Erso and others to develop the Galactic Empire’s ultimate weapon in Rogue One. Its actual image closed out the show’s first season. However, it came with a big question about how it was constructed. So, with Krennic’s role in its development, he has a huge part to play in Andor Season 2.
That said, confirming his return only makes the idea more exciting. The show is expected to end where the movie begins, and with Krennic in it, his role is set to unite two of Star Wars’ most critically acclaimed projects even more. Add that to more Rogue One cameos in the series; it will surely be an ending that fans must watch out for.
With all these teases and hints about Andor Season 2, the show’s final season is already building an incredible hype that makes it a must-see. As the series will delve into the story of Rogue One, it’s expected to feature a finale like no other.
Andor Season 2 is expected to release on Disney+ in 2025.
