A last-place idol and the one fan who never left her handshake lane are about to become an unlikely team. Promise Me the Spotlight has been revealed through the official website of Promise Me the Spotlight with a teaser trailer, a key visual, the main cast and its opening theme.
The teaser gives the first voices to its two leads and previews the opening theme, "Nanimono demo nakatta Watashi dakara," performed by Yuika. The song's title translates as Because I Was No One, matching the underdog climb at the heart of the story.

The key visual released with the teaser puts the full Melty Strawberry lineup on stage in pink under falling confetti, with Mizuki Natsuno looming large at the side. Down in the crowd, Koichi Okuta waves her penlight alone, and the art pairs the lines "You, the idol, are shining" and "To shine, I need you, the fan."
The announced cast includes:
Haruna Mikawa as Mizuki "Zukki" Natsuno, the least popular member of Melty Strawberry
Taihi Kimura as Koichi Okuta, her one devoted fan
Mai Kanno as Awayuki Shiroi, the group's center
Yukari Anzai as Hatsune Fukuba
Character visuals for the remaining members of Melty Strawberry were released alongside the main four. Their voice cast has not been announced yet, so more casting news is still to come.
Seiji Kishi, known for Assassination Classroom, directs the anime at Team TillDawn. Yuko Kakihara handles series composition, and Kazuaki Morita designs the characters.
What is Promise Me the Spotlight about?
Promise Me the Spotlight is an idol romantic comedy manga by Jun Wakatsuki, which began serialization in Kodansha's Shonen Magazine Edge in 2022 before moving to the Magazine Pocket service. Six collected volumes have been released, and Kodansha offers the manga in English through its K Manga service.
Kodansha describes the manga as follows:
"If you can really make me the Center…then we can get married."" Meet Mizuki Natsuno, the least popular member of the nationally acclaimed idol group, Melty Strawberry. She has an eternal fan in Koichi Okuta, who is always pouring heart and soul into supporting her. Normally, a fan would never get to interact with their idol beyond the stage. But one thing led to another, and Koichi now finds himself living together with Mizuki in his own house. He vows to make her the new Center of Melty Strawberry, sparking an unconventional tag-team between a devoted fan and his idol. Together, they attempt to elevate Mizuki's career from obscurity to stardom!
Promise Me the Spotlight will air on TV Tokyo and its six affiliate stations. A premiere date has not been announced yet.
