While fans are waiting for the release of Oshi no Ko Season 2, Toei and Amazon announced the coming of the series’ live-action adaptation with cast visuals. This year will be big for Aka Akasaka and Mego Yokoyari’s series. Aside from the release of the anime’s second season, a live-action TV series and movie are about to hit the small and big screens.

In a press release by Toei, the company revealed that it collaborated with Amazon to produce the live-action Oshi no Ko TV series and movie. The adaptation will begin with a film distributed by Toei and will be followed by a TV series distributed exclusively worldwide by Amazon Prime Video. The two projects will be released in Winter 2024.

Talking about the live-action, the series creator Akasaka doubted the decision to create the manga into a movie, asking the cast and production team if it would be okay. Hence, he was thankful to everyone who made it possible. He added that the series was made not from his perspective but by the people in the entertainment industry and the real world. And just like fans, he expressed his excitement in seeing the TV series and movie finally released.

What is Oshi no Ko about?

Oshi no Ko follows the story of the obstetrician-gynecologist Gorou Amamiya, who was tasked to deliver the kids of the famous pop idol Ai Hoshino. But on the night of her delivery, he is killed by an obsessive fan. He is then reincarnated as her son, Aquamarine "Aqua" Hoshino, and has retained his memories from his previous life. At the same time, his fraternal twin, Ruby Hoshino, is the reincarnation of one of his patients, Sarina Tendoji, who’s also Ai’s fan.

You can read the synopsis below:

Gorou is an ob-gyn with a life far removed from the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry―the world of his favorite idol, rising star Ai Hoshino. But when the two are unexpectedly brought together, their fates become intertwined in ways that defy all reason. For the good doctor, it's time to stan(d) and deliver!

The upcoming live-action TV series and the movie will be based on the manga written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It has been serialized since April 2020, has collected 13 tankobon volumes, and has over 15 million copies in circulation as of November 2023. It has been licensed in English by Yen Press and is published by Shueisha on Manga Plus.

It was then adapted into anime by Doga Kobo and released in June 2023 with 11 episodes. The second season is expected to premiere in 2024. It was released in North America with an English dub by Sentai Filmworks and streamed on Hidive.
