Fans aren’t the only ones who are excited for the upcoming Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece. Even the series’ cast, Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Taz Skylar, and Jacob Gibson, have shown their excitement in a new video as they try to describe their characters in 10 words or less.
Netflix is about to release One Piece in a few days, and the streamer has been dropping new promotional stints for the series almost every day. Based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga of the same name, this is the first time the franchise will see a live-action adaptation despite having many iterations, like anime and animated films.
In a new video shared on Netflix’s One Piece’s X account (formerly Twitter), the cast has introduced themselves, led by Godoy. “We’re gonna try telling you who we each play in 10 words or less,” he said.
Of course, he starts by describing his character as Luffy as “Straw Hat, future King of the Pirates, the stretchy kind.” Next is Rudd, who details her role as Nami as a “Clever navigator with a few secrets and a bo staff.”
In addition, Mackenyu recounts his character as Zoro with an obvious description. “Green hair, three swords, holds one in his mouth,” he says.
For Gibson’s part, he calls Usopp “The legendary sharpshooter with a tendency to stretch the truth.” Lastly, Skylar defines Sanji as a “D*** good cook, well dressed, only fights with his feet.”

One Piece Creator Eiichiro Oda Praises Iñaki Godoy
Ever since Oda started One Piece manga in 1997, his lead character, Luffy, has been loved by many. He’s the series’ main star, so it’s only reasonable that he wants to find the right actor to play this role. Thankfully, Godoy has come along, and the mangaka has nothing but praise for the 20-year-old star, saying he was born to play the Straw Hat captain.
When the two met at his studio in Tokyo, Japan, Oda revealed he couldn’t imagine anyone taking the role of Luffy but Godoy. In fact, the artist even expressed his love for the Mexican actor in a letter.
In the clip, Oda admitted that his biggest worry for the live-action adaptation of One Piece was if they could find someone who could perfectly portray Luffy. “I watched a lot of various auditions, and when I found Iñaki, I laughed,” he continued. “He was just like the person I drew in my manga. I intuitively thought, 'That's Luffy.'"
