Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer and character poster for its upcoming romantic drama Pavane, starring Moon Sang-min and Go Ah-sung. Directed by Lee Jong-pil and adapted from Park Min-gyu’s beloved novel Pavane for a Dead Princess, the film promises a gentle, introspective story about three wounded young adults who find unexpected comfort and connection while working together at a department store.

The newly released trailer offers a poignant glimpse into the quiet, everyday lives of these three department store employees, each carrying their own invisible scars. Go Ah-sung plays Mi-jung, a soft-spoken salesperson who has built high walls around herself, going out of her way to avoid eye contact and remain unnoticed by those around her. Among her coworkers, she has earned the affectionate yet telling nickname “Dinosaur,” a reference to her tendency to retreat and protect herself like an ancient, solitary creature.

Moon Sang-min portrays Gyeong-rok, a part-time worker who has quietly set aside his former aspirations to take on this new role. Their first encounter happens by chance in the parking lot, immediately piquing Gyeong-rok’s interest. Curious, he asks his friend Yo-han—played by Byun Yo-han—about the mysterious woman. As Gyeong-rok finds himself increasingly drawn to Mi-jung, Yo-han’s voice-over delivers one of the trailer’s most touching lines: “That summer, he fell in love for the first time in his life.”

Observing his friend’s growing feelings, Yo-han steps in with gentle encouragement, sharing practical tips on how to strike up conversations with Mi-jung and make her feel at ease. Through these small acts of support, the three colleagues slowly form a warm and genuine friendship. As they share vulnerable moments and quiet understanding, a delicate romantic tension begins to emerge between Mi-jung and Gyeong-rok, hinting at the possibility of mutual healing and the tentative opening of closed hearts.

Following the trailer release, Netflix also dropped the official main poster for Pavane. The striking visual captures Mi-jung and Gyeong-rok locked in a passionate, almost dreamlike kiss beneath the shimmering glow of the aurora borealis. The ethereal northern lights serve as a powerful metaphor for the rare, beautiful moments of light and hope that pierce through the characters’ emotional darkness, perfectly encapsulating the film’s themes of quiet transformation and rediscovered capacity for love.

What is Pavane about?

Pavane follows three emotionally guarded young people employed at the same department store, each burdened by personal pain and a long-standing difficulty in accepting themselves. In the ordinary setting of their workplace, these isolated individuals gradually become one another’s source of warmth and understanding. Through understated interactions and shared vulnerability, they begin to heal, learning that self-love and the courage to connect with others can emerge even from the most unremarkable corners of life.

The film delicately explores themes of resilience, self-acceptance, and the subtle power of human connection. By focusing on small gestures, awkward silences, and moments of tentative openness, Pavane offers a tender portrait of how love—both platonic and romantic—can quietly mend what has been broken and help people rediscover their place in the world.
