The Pokémon Company has electrified fans with the reveal of Mega Hawlucha, the latest Mega Evolution for the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A. On August 28, 2025, the official Pokémon YouTube channel debuted two captivating videos showcasing this Fighting- and Flying-type Pokémon. The first, a CGI-animated short titled FULL MATCH: Hawlucha vs. Machamp, depicts a thrilling wrestling ring showdown where Hawlucha, initially overpowered by Machamp, taps into its bond with its Trainer to unlock Mega Evolution and secure a dramatic victory. The second video offers an in-game preview, highlighting Mega Hawlucha’s dynamic movements and combat prowess in the Pokémon Legends: Z-A battle system.
The CGI trailer immerses viewers in Hawlucha’s lucha libre-inspired world, emphasizing its Wrestling Pokémon identity. As Machamp dominates early, Hawlucha’s Mega Evolution transforms it into a spectacle of power, sporting a bold black and gold mask, a grand collar, and cape-like feathers that amplify its luchador flair. The in-game footage complements this, showcasing Mega Hawlucha’s agility as it darts across the battlefield, blending its cultural roots with a superheroic edge.
The official description reads:
Bulked up by Mega Evolution, it uses its muscles to take hit after hit from opponents’ moves and flex its own strength. After luring its opponent into attacking, it retaliates to make them flinch before diving at them using its signature move, Flying Press, to aim for victory.
This strategic approach highlights Mega Hawlucha’s resilience and cunning, making it a formidable contender in battle. Its signature move, Flying Press, combines its dual Fighting and Flying typing, delivering a dynamic spinning dive that maximizes momentum and impact.
Mega Hawlucha stands at 3’3” (1 meter) tall and weighs 55.1 lbs. (25 kg), maintaining its compact yet muscular frame. The Mega Evolution enhances its physical prowess, allowing it to absorb powerful blows while setting up devastating counterattacks. The trailer also includes gameplay footage, showcasing Mega Hawlucha’s agility in Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s real-time battle system, where it darts across the battlefield with vibrant energy. The design retains the essence of Hawlucha’s Kalos region origins, first introduced in Pokémon X and Y in 2013, while pushing its luchador-inspired aesthetic to new heights.
This reveal marks Mega Hawlucha as the third new Mega Evolution announced for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, following Mega Dragonite and Mega Victreebel. Unlike its predecessors, Mega Hawlucha’s design leans into a grounded yet bold evolution of its base form, emphasizing strength and showmanship without exaggerated embellishments. The Pokémon Company has also partnered with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) to celebrate Mega Hawlucha’s debut, hosting a special Pokémon Legends: Z-A × CMLL Event on September 26, 2025, at Arena México in Mexico City. The event, set to begin at 7:00 p.m. CST, will showcase authentic lucha libre and be broadcast on CMLL’s official YouTube channel, with tickets available through Ticketmaster.
Set in the reimagined Lumiose City of the Kalos region, Pokémon Legends: Z-A promises a fresh take on the Pokémon experience, focusing on urban redevelopment and the coexistence of humans and Pokémon. The game reintroduces Mega Evolution as a central mechanic, with Mega Hawlucha joining a growing lineup of enhanced Pokémon. The title also features a new four-player multiplayer mode, Z-A Battle Club, and introduces Mega Rogue Pokémon battles, where players face oversized Mega-Evolved opponents.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is slated for release on October 16, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 version will offer improved frame rates and higher resolution for sharper visuals, while maintaining the same core gameplay across both platforms. Pre-orders are now available on the My Nintendo Store, with exclusive physical bonuses offered to early buyers.
