Tony Todd, the voice actor for Venom in the popular Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 recently confirmed that Insomniac Games only allowed 10% of his dialogue for the character to be featured in the game. Venom is among some of the most beloved comic book villains to exist, and his comeback in the newly-released game was a highly anticipated part of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Unfortunately, it looks like the developers might have cut plenty of Venom content beforehand.

Lately, the Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man titles have turned out to be a massive success for Marvel. Regardless of the character’s popularity, Spider-Man has suffered with critical acclaim when it comes to the video game area, even though there was great potential until recently. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 received positive and excellent reviews from both critics and players.

While it looks like Insomniac Games has turned its attention to its Wolverine title, there’s a high chance that a future Marvel’s Spider-Man game can continue exploring Venom. This news was shared by X user Evan Filarca on his account, who attended a panel featuring the Venom voice actor Tony Todd at FAN EXPO San Francisco 2023.

Todd confirmed at the panel that Insomniac only used 10% of the total dialogue recorded for Venom, which includes the cut scenes of Miles taking on the symbiote. There is no way of knowing the whole context of these dialogues, so there’s a chance that many of them were general gameplay lines that were supposed to be for the playable Venom scenes.

On the other hand, it’s also possible that Venom was set for a more major role in the game, and was cut down because of the rogues gallery featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This news has sparked speculations and theories regarding the character and how he’ll be used in the future.

The most famous theory so far is that there might be a Spider-Man half-sequel based on Venom, similar to the way in which Miles Morales got his standalone game to further explore the character. Unfortunately, nothing is confirmed as of yet and these are purely speculations and theories.

Can Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 lead to Venom’s return in the future?

By the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Venom is killed after Peter Parker removes Harry Osborn from his grip, freeing him. It is quite early for Insomniac Games to be completely done with the alien symbiote, especially since he has been quite popular among the fans of the franchise for a really long time.

However, if the developers decide to play by the rules of the Marvel comic books, then no character ends up leaving so soon, so there's a chance that Venom might also return. The lines that were cut might just be used later for a future Venom game or another Spider-Man game. Fans sure are hoping that’s the case!
