The God of Mischief is back in Loki Season 2! The Loki fans are seeing today is far different from what they saw in the first season, now trying to save the Time Variance Authority after wanting to burn it. But aside from trying to rescue the timeline, he also wants to protect his newfound family. Tom Hiddleston talks about them amid the character’s struggle with his own family in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Loki was first introduced as a villain in the Infinity Saga. His personal and family problems often left Earth and even the Avengers in a catastrophe. However, everything changed when Loki began, especially when he became a part of TVA, ending up confronting himself and finding a new purpose that made him meet a new family.
In an interview with Marvel before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, Hiddleston revealed that in Loki’s breakdown to understand himself and amid opening up, breaking down, and being rebuilt by Mobius and his other TVA colleagues, his character has found a new awareness and ability to connect with other people. He now wants to save the TVA by assuring it won’t explode after Sylvie killed He Who Remains, leaving no one regulating the timelines and the Temporal Loom being overloaded.
Hiddleston added that as he continuously plays the role of Loki, he has learned that his character has been looking for meaning. His lack of purpose makes him “full of grievance, anger, and emotional destabilization,” making him look for value in all the wrong places.
Now that he’s in TVA, the actor believes Loki has finally found his purpose, and that is to reorganize the group and help Mobius and Hunter B-15. “If Season 1 was about self-awareness and self-acceptance, Season 2 is about taking responsibility and finding a new purpose. Maybe there’s more burden and less glory in the purpose this time,” he said.
