The leaked documents obtained from the Rhysida cyber attack suggest that Insomniac Games might just be working on some exciting new Spider-Verse content. Once Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was out and thoroughly enjoyed by fans, many moved on to wonder and speculate about what might be cooking at the Insomniac Games office.

However, the latest leak has possibly offered a clearer picture of the developers' future plans. Insomniac Games has become one of the most successful studios under Sony. It doesn’t even come as a shock to see that its success has also attracted the attention of some cybercriminals since earlier this week, the developer reportedly became the victim of a ransomware attack.

Ever since it occurred, Sony has publicly announced that the company is well aware of the reports and is busy investigating the entire incident. The company also stated that it doesn’t believe the attack managed to affect other various Sony divisions. Initially reported by Cyber Daily, Rhysida leaked sensitive documents.

Not only this, but the group also threatened to release the entire thing in seven days if Insomniac Games failed to pay the ransom. These documents also include content about Insomniac’s upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine game, along with hints of other projects from the developers that might be in development.

One specific document about a job role reads, "additional support for Spider-Verse," whereas another mentions Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 and potential Spider-Verse as Insomniac Games’ planned titles. Sony hasn’t officially confirmed any Spider-Verse game or the fact that it might be in the works, even though the call-out might also hint at a potential DLC and not a whole title.

What might the potential Spider-Verse content be?

Many believe that the Spider-Verse content might be some sort of multiplayer game since Insomniac has previously confirmed that it’s working on an unannounced game alongside Marvel’s Wolverine. Moreover, previous rumors and job listings have teased a multiplayer title, regardless of the studio being silent on the matter. Although the title might be based on Insomniac’s other franchises or a new IP, a potential Spider-Verse multiplayer game might work in Sony’s favor.

The possible game would also align perfectly with Sony’s plans to launch more live-service titles in the future. However, it won’t come as a surprise to anyone if Sony scales back its plans, especially in the middle of the current difficulties surrounding the live-service space. Despite that, we hope we do see something Spider-Verse-related soon!

As for the third and final movie of the Spider-Verse trilogy, Beyond the Spider-Verse, producer Chris Miller recently shared an update, telling fans at the recent For Your Consideration event (via Jonathan Sim): “We’re in production… we’re really excited about where the story is going. I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, and it’s as emotional as the other ones… we’re knee-deep in it.” Phil Lord then jokingly added, “It will be released in theaters.”
