Information on GTA 5’s canceled story DLCs has appeared online, and we are quite upset about it. Rockstar Games develops top-tiered single-player games that feature deep stories, exciting characters, and massive worlds. The only thing that seems to bother fans is that the company has a knack for taking a really long time with its games. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 came out nearly five years apart from each other, with GTA 6 releasing seven years after RDR2.
However, fans already know that the wait is always worth it, even though it does require a lot of patience from their side. There’s one other thing that’s pretty annoying for fans, which is that Rockstar Games has developed some of the best single-player DLCs across Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA IV but didn’t do much for the games that came out after them.
Sometime after GTA 5 came out, Rockstar confirmed they would release single-player DLCs for the game, with Trevor, Michael, and Franklin making a comeback. Unfortunately, as time passed, it became quite apparent to players that these DLCs would never see the light of day and were silently canceled. Some parts of GTA 5’s source code were recently leaked online, allowing fans to find some details regarding the DLCs.
As it turns out, there were eight planned DLCs, including a specific one called Agent Trevor, which was allegedly converted into GTA Online content, such as The Doomsday Heist update. There’s also a Prologue DLC, in which fans would’ve possibly gotten a whole story DLC focused on Michael and Trevor’s time in North Yankton before the events of the main story unraveled. Liberty City, a rumored DLC that spread years ago, was also supposed to be an addition to GTA 5.
The other packs are somewhat general, like the Manhunt pack, but we aren’t sure if these were supposed to have brand-new story content or were just meant to be smaller DLCs with less content. Unfortunately, we won’t ever know. Fans have been upset ever since they discovered these recent changes in Rockstar’s plans for GTA 5’s DLC. It looks like a lot was planned for the game, but because of the support required for GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2’s development, it all got scrapped.
To sum it all up, here's the full list of canceled GTA 5 DLCs:
‘SP Assassination Pack’
‘SP Manhunt Pack’
‘SP Norman Pack’
‘Agent Trevor’
‘Relationship Pack’
‘Enterprise Pack’
‘Prologue DLC’
Is GTA 6 expected to feature DLC?
Many rumors suggest that Rockstar Games has been planning on releasing DLC for Grand Theft Auto 6. There’s a chance it’ll be based on some of the content that was cut in order to reduce the scope of the game in order to minimize the time crunch Rockstar is currently on and get the highly anticipated game out on the time they initially planned to launch the game on, which in 2025.
However, it remains to be seen what the developers have in store for the fans, and if there’s any DLC planned for the game or not. Unfortunately, following the trailer release, Rockstar once again went silent and might show up when it’s time for the next trailer to come out. Many fans sure do hope that GTA 6’s DLC makes up for the canceled GTA 5 DLC! We’ll just have to wait and see if there’s any.
GTA 6 will come out in 2025 on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
