Greta Gerwig is moving from Barbie Land to Narnia and what a leap it's going to be. The Lady Bird director was recently announced to work on the Chronicles of Narnia reboot films for Netflix and it sounds like the filmmaker is feeling overwhelmed by the projects. Gerwig has just admitted that she is "terrified" of her upcoming adaptations of C.S. Lewis' books.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Greta Gerwig was tapped by Netflix to develop at least two Chronicles of Narnia movies. The Barbie director is expected to write and direct the projects which could begin with an adaptation of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
It's an awesome new gig but Gerwig was quick to admit that it's a lot to take for someone who has only directed four movies so far. In an interview with the Inside Total Film podcast, she admitted that she hasn't considered how to approach the projects just yet.
"I don't know," Gerwig said. "I haven't even really started wrapping my arms around it. But I'm properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start. I think when I'm scared, it's always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it'll be like, 'Okay. Maybe I shouldn't do that one.' No, I'm terrified of it. It's extraordinary. And so we'll see, I don't know."
It certainly makes sense for Gerwig to be scared considering that the Chronicles of Narnia is one of the most popular book series out there and already has a massive following. Moreover, the film adaptations of three books were all huge blockbusters so people have high expectations of the Netflix movies. Nevertheless, we're sure Gerwig will pull this off and can't wait to see what she does with the projects soon.
Greta Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia films are still in early development. In the meantime, her latest project Barbie is now screening in theaters worldwide.
