Former Star Wars Scribes Throw Shade at Disney Amidst Writers' Strike

Damon Lindelof claims that boycotting Disney is better than working on a new Star Wars film.

Damon Lindelof is taking a stand against big companies and throwing shade at the biggest one in Hollywood. The Lost co-creator pointed out that he is happy to walk with his fellow writers on strike. Lindelof even went as far as to say that standing up to Disney is "a lot more fun than writing a Star Wars movie."

Back in late 2022, it was announced that Damon Lindelof was working with Justin Britt-Gibson on the screenplay for a new Star Wars film. The project would serve as the first Star Wars movie since The Rise of Skywalker, and there was a lot of excitement about the film. However, it was later revealed that both Lindelof and Britt-Gibson were removed from the project, and Disney decided to go with a completely different movie that will bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey.

Since then, Lindelof appears to have moved on. Or has he? In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Watchmen showrunner spoke about his satisfaction with being a part of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike as well as the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

"99 days of steps under my belt and I don’t know if there’s any end in sight, but I’m feeling good, strong, convinced, and unified," Lindelof said. "Justin and I wrote a Star Wars movie together and picketing Disney is a lot more fun than writing a Star Wars movie."

Ouch. Not surprisingly, Britt-Gibson agrees with Lindelof, and his statement pokes fun at his strained history with Star Wars. "This will be done so we have a better future for writers, for actors, for everybody out here on the line. Strike the Empire back," he said.

For now, it has not yet been revealed why Lindelof and Britt-Gibson were removed from what would have been their Star Wars films. However, there are speculations that it had to do with creative differences as the writers didn't agree with Disney's vision for the franchise's future.
