Evanescence Teams Up With Netflix's Devil May Cry Anime For New "Afterlife" Song

Evanescence is back with a brand new single titled "Afterlife", and it will be released this Friday!

Netflix is getting ready to release its new Devil May Cry anime adaptation, based on the popular action-adventure videogame franchise created by Hideki Kamiya. Today, the streamer has revealed that the America nu metal band Evanescence are releasing a new single called Afterlife for the new Devil May Cry anime, which is set to launch this Friday. Evanescence shared a preview of their new song:

Netflix officially announced the anime in September 2024, Johnny Yong Bosch was revealed to be the voice actor behind the show's demon hunter protagonist, Dante. The additional English dub cast includes Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Chris Coppola as Enzo, the late Kevin Conroy as VP Baines in a posthumous role, and Hoon Lee as White Rabbit.

The cast of the anime's Japanese dub includes:

  • Toshiyuki Morikawa as Dante

  • Fumiko Orikasa as Lady

  • Hiroaki Hirata as Vergil

The project is a collaboration between Capcom, Studio Mir, and Adi Shankar, the executive producer behind the Judge Dredd remake Dredd, the Castlevania animated series, and other critically-acclaimed Netflix shows such as The Guardians of Justice and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Limp Bizkit's hit song Rollin' is featured in the anime's opening sequence.

What is the Devil May Cry anime about?

Hideki Kamiya's Devil May Cry games are mostly developed and published by Capcom. The urban fantasy series follows the demon hunter Dante and his efforts to vanquish various demons who invade Earth. The franchise currently has 6 entries, with several collections and remasters. Netflix shared an official synopsis for Devil May Cry anime:

Meet Dante: a half-human, half-demon, hunter for hire and carefree owner of the Devil May Cry agency. A mysterious woman named Trish approaches him one day with news of the king of the underworld making a grand return from banishment to wreak havoc on the world. Brandishing his father’s sword Force Edge and trusty guns Ebony & Ivory, he sets out to defeat the demon king, the one responsible for the death of his family.
