Dune: Part 2 is no longer coming to the San Diego Comic-Con. The sequel's planned panel at SDCC 2023 has been cancelled as none of the film's actors will be making an appearance at the event. The announcement comes soon after SAG-AFTRA joined WGA on strike.
There is little doubt that Dune: Part 2 is one of the panels that people were looking forward to at SDCC 2023. After all, there is a possibility that a new trailer will be dropped and it would be Austin Butler and Florence Pugh's first public appearance as part of the Dune cast. However, Legendary has announced that the sequel's panel will be cancelled.
"Due to SAG strike actions, Legendary has pulled out of Comic-Con, cancelling a panel that would have brought out cast & footage of DUNE PART 2," Borys Kit confirmed on Twitter. This seems to confirm that Legendary was supposed to have a special panel for its upcoming projects at SDCC.
The SAG-AFTRA actors' strike comes just months after the WGA writers' strike and both strikes have a huge effect on several productions. Numerous films and TV shows were delayed as writers refused to work and with no actors on the set, shootings were cancelled.
Interestingly, Dune 2 should be unaffected by the strikes considering that filming was completed late last year and the sequel is currently in post-production. However, this proved to be untrue as the film's SDCC 2023 panel still got cancelled.
Dune: Part 2 is directed by Denis Villeneuve and will bring back Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem. They will be joined by Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux.
The second Dune movie is scheduled to hit theaters on November 3, 2023.
