Deadpool & Wolverine features several unexpected, jaw-dropping cameos. After many years, fans once again see Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Dafne Keen as X-23, and Chris Evans as Johnny Storm / Human Torch on the big screen. Additionally, for the first time, Channing Tatum finally gets the chance to portray Remy LeBeau / Gambit in live-action. While these cameos make the threequel even more exciting, Ryan Reynolds reveals fears over featuring this MCU crossover in an emotional tribute to Hugh Jackman on Instagram.
Since its release, Reynolds has honored the stars who have become a significant part of Deadpool & Wolverine. In a recent post, he finally took the time to thank Jackman for co-leading the film with him, seven years after Jackman's supposed retirement following the release of James Mangold’s 2017 film Logan. While reflecting on how it all began—with Jackman calling him and expressing his desire for Wolverine to return—Reynolds also discussed the pressure of finally joining the MCU.
“@slevydirect and I didn’t talk about it much, but we were feeling a TON of pressure; worrying about how we walk these characters into the MCU, worrying about all of our secret characters STAYING secret — along with so many moving parts,” he captioned the several snaps of Jackman and them together on the movie’s set.
However, that changed when the Australian actor finally stepped onto the set wearing his comic-accurate yellow suit. They realized something special was happening at that moment, which would make everything okay.
“He not only brought Wolvie back into the light, he’d [at long last] wear the iconic yellow suit,” he continued.
Ryan Reynolds Praises Hugh Jackman After Working Together in Deadpool & Wolverine
After months of filming and the seemingly endless editing and post-production, Reynolds recalled having a “front-row seat to Wolverine,” watching and learning from his favorite actor and friend. Through their collaboration in Deadpool & Wolverine, the Canadian actor realized he could be both a friend and a fan at the same time.
He then reflected on their first meeting in Sydney in 2007. Jackman was already a movie star at the time, while Reynolds was still a supporting actor. He compared the experience to starting a new school, making him a nervous wreck. Although he knew movie sets could have a “scary imbalance of power,” Reynolds praised Jackman for treating every crew member with “genuine respect and appreciation. “
“He made a case that the term ‘filmmaker’ isn’t just for people with their name on the poster,” he continued. “I don’t know anyone more thoughtful, and classy than Hugh.”
He also commended Jackman for his willingness to do anything for someone, whether he had just met them or loved them for years. Reynolds thanked him not only for making fans’ dreams come true but also for fulfilling his own.
“In Deadpool & Wolverine Hugh didn’t just make dreams come true for fans of Wolverine. He made MY dreams come true too,” he added. “He is THE X-Man. #TilYoure90”
Deadpool & Wolverine has successfully and naturally integrated several Fox-Marvel characters into the MCU. The story begins with Wade Wilson wanting to join the Avengers until Evans surprisingly appears as the Human Torch instead of Captain America. After the movie ends, fans eagerly wait to see when these characters, especially the titular ones, will appear on the big screen next.
