The Hollywood writers’ strike may soon be over after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) finally reaches a provisional deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), representing the studios and streamers. However, despite this agreement, which is yet to be ratified, the impact of the five-month strike, which halts TV and movie productions, can still be felt. That said, the movies releasing in 2024, including Deadpool 3, may not work out as planned.
For once, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has yet to reach a deal of its own, meaning the Hollywood actors can’t go back to work as the strike continues. Hence, many film and TV projects won’t start filming until this is settled.
A source told Deadline that the 2024 theatrical release is “not real.” As these upcoming movies are yet to complete their production, it remains to be seen if they can meet their release schedule next year.
Aside from Deadpool 3, which is scheduled to be released on May 3, 2024, the strike also affects Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 8 (June 8, 2024) and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The latter film still needs much voiceover work, so its release schedule is “to be announced.”

Deadpool 3 Production Update
Deadpool 3 stopped its production on July 14 due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. The film director, Shawn Levy, told Collider that they were already 35 days into the filming and about halfway through the movie overall when it happened. He also revealed they didn’t prioritize the “CGI-heavy shots” in anticipation of the strikes, which would have been a smart thing to do for him.
Levy explained that he thought the strikes wouldn’t be that serious, but he sent hundreds of people home because of it. Fortunately, the film’s crew were all waiting to return to work. So, just like others, the filmmaker was also “yearning for a resolution that feels fair and equitable and gets this industry back to work.”
So far, Marvel Studios has yet to announce if there will be a schedule change for Deadpool 3’s release. But knowing fans have been waiting to see The Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine’s big return to the big screens, they will be patiently waiting.
