As anticipation builds for the Straw Hat Pirates’ next adventure, actor David Dastmalchian, known for his roles in films like Late Night with the Devil, has shared exciting new details about his role as Mr. 3 in the upcoming season. Speaking at San Diego Comic Con 2025, held at the San Diego Convention Center in California, Dastmalchian hinted at a darker and more violent tone for One Piece Season 2, promising a thrilling continuation of the beloved series.
In an interview with CBR, Dastmalchian revealed his enthusiasm for joining the One Piece universe as Mr. Galdino, also known as Mr. 3, a cunning antagonist in the Baroque Works organization. “I get to be Mr. Galdino. I get to be Mr. 3. It’s so crazy. One Piece is a big deal at my house. My son read every manga. We’ve watched all the anime, and the live-action is so incredibly well done… staying very reverent to [Eiichiro] Oda’s original ideas. What happens when the Straw Hats show up at Little Garden, and how Mr. 3 has been sent by Mr. 0 to take care of business. It’s scary in a way that I don’t think Season 1 was. Very violent. Incredible visuals,” Dastmalchian said, highlighting the series’ commitment to Oda’s vision while teasing a more intense narrative.
Dastmalchian’s comments suggest that One Piece Season.building toward the pivotal Arabasta arc, a storyline known for its high stakes and dramatic confrontations. The actor’s mention of the Little Garden arc indicates that the Straw Hat Pirates, led by Monkey D. Luffy, will face new challenges as they encounter Mr. 3, who is dispatched by the enigmatic Mr. 0 to thwart their journey. The promise of a “scarier” and “very violent” season aligns with the escalating conflicts in Oda’s original manga, particularly a shocking moment involving Luffy and Mr. 0 that is sure to captivate audiences.
Reflecting on his experience filming in South Africa, Dastmalchian expressed awe at the production’s scale and attention to detail. “The world that they created and we shot down in South Africa was just so incredible,” he said, emphasizing the immersive environments crafted for the series. His passion for the role is evident, but so is his awareness of the responsibility that comes with portraying a character cherished by One Piece fans. “I’m really excited for people to see -- and I’m nervous, because I care deeply when I get to take on characters like this, who have a very special place in people’s hearts. I want to make sure I do it justice, and that I do it right, and I hope people are pleased with the way I brought Mr. 3 to life,” Dastmalchian added.
The second season of One Piece will introduce Tony Tony Chopper, the Straw Hat Pirates’ lovable doctor, who will be brought to life through CG animation in his iconic reindeer form. The series continues to build on the foundation laid by its first season, which followed Luffy’s quest to become the King of the Pirates after gaining rubber-like powers from the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit.
