Daredevil Director Addresses Cancelled Daughters of the Dragon Spin-off Series

Marc Jobst confirmed that the Marvel Netflix series was already in the plans before the plug was pulled

There is little doubt that the Marvel Netflix shows had a good thing going before being cancelled when Disney took over. But before the House of Mouse pulled the plug on the shows, the showrunners already had big plans in the works. For instance, Daredevil director Marc Jobst confirmed that a Daughters of the Dragon spin-off series was already in the plans before the whole idea was cancelled.

In The Defenders, Colleen Wing helped Misty Knight deal with the loss of her arm and the two worked together again in Luke Cage Season 2 as well as Iron Fist Season 2. The collaboration between the two characters led to speculations that they could start their own thing just like in the comic books and get their own spin-off series. Needless to say, everyone was hoping for a Daughters of the Dragon show right before Disney took over.

But just how close were we to a Daughters of the Dragon series? Marc Jobst told The Hollywood Reporter that the spin-off was something that was teased in Luke Cage.

"Yes, absolutely," the director said. "There was some relationship building in the episode, starting with the boxing ring training. That culminated in Colleen deliberately leading Misty into a fight to get over her self-pity, knowing that Misty would rise to it, which she did. The two of them going off into the smoke and bokeh as a definite twosome was a nod to the potential of Daughters of the Dragon."

Unfortunately, this was something that we won't be able to see as all of the Marvel Netflix shows were pulled after the Disney acquisition. For now, it is unclear whether we'll ever get to see Daughters of the Dragon in the future.

Which Marvel Netflix characters will return in Daredevil: Born Again?

It has already been confirmed that Charlie Cox will return as Matt Murdock in Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again. He will be joined by Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin and there are speculations that the new show will also feature Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones.

Interestingly, Born Again has already recast one character from the original show. Kingpin's wife Vanessa Fisk was originally portrayed by Ayelet Zurer but will be portrayed by Sandrine Holt in the new series. At this point, it is unclear whether Marvel Studios and Disney are planning to recast characters like Luke Cage or Danny Rand. Additionally, it has not yet been announced whether Jessica Henwick and Simone Missick will return as Colleen and Misty but we'll be waiting for some casting news soon.
