Daredevil: Born Again Writers & Directors Fired Over Marvel’s Creative Reboot Plans

Marvel is reportedly planning for a creative reboot of its new Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again. So, even if a few episodes had already been shot, the studio fired the show’s head writers, Chris Ord and Matt Corman, and its directors.

Daredevil paused its production in mid-June due to the writers' strike. This seemed to give the Marvel executives, including Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, a chance to review the already-shot episodes and noticed “the show wasn’t working.”

That said, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio secretly let go of Ord, Corman, and the directors for the remainder of the season in late September. Hence, it’s now on the lookout for new writers and filmmakers to replace them. But despite the reboot, Marvel will keep some scenes and episodes while adding other serialized elements and making Ord and Corman executive producers.

This revamp comes after Marvel ditched the traditional TV-making model, opting to make an entire $150 million season instead of commissioning pilots. It also doesn’t hire showrunners and let the film executives run the series. And just like it does when making films, it fixes errors and mistakes through the post-production process and reshoots. So, despite its titles remaining one of the most-watched TV series on Disney+, Marvel will now follow a traditional way of doing TV shows.

“We’re trying to marry the Marvel culture with the traditional television culture,” Marvel head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum said. “It comes down to, ‘How can we tell stories in television that honor what’s so great about the source material?’”

What to expect in Daredevil: Born Again?

Though details about Daredevil: Born Again remain scarce, it's widely known that it will see Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprising their roles as Matthew Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, respectively. It will also feature Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn.

But as fans first saw this series on Netflix in 2015, sources revealed that Corman and Ord made it a legal proceduralfar different from the said version. Cox won’t even be seen as Daredevil until the fourth episode. So, as Marvel eyes to perfectly do this project, considering the high expectations surrounding it, it’s now rethinking “the original intention of the show.”
