Pearl Abyss has rolled out its largest update yet for Crimson Desert, introducing sweeping changes that fundamentally alter gameplay, progression, and quality-of-life features for players across Pywel. Titled Version 1.04.00, the patch emphasizes player choice through new difficulty settings, expands housing and storage systems extensively, adds new pets and companions, and delivers numerous balance adjustments and improvements. This update aims to make the action-adventure experience more accessible to newcomers while offering greater challenges and customization for veteran Greymanes.
The most significant addition is the implementation of Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulty options, now available directly in the Settings > Play menu. These modes cater to a wide range of player skill levels and preferences. Easy mode lowers the barrier to entry with reduced player damage intake, weaker and slower enemies, more forgiving parry and dodge windows, and less aggressive boss behaviors. Normal mode retains the original experience, while Hard mode significantly ramps up the intensity. In Hard, food effects now require full consumption animations, players take more damage, enemies are tougher and faster, parry and dodge windows shrink, roll invincibility decreases, and bosses gain new combat patterns along with more frequent counters. A boss rematch feature is also slated for a future addition, allowing players to revisit favorite encounters.
Housing and inventory management receive substantial upgrades in this patch. Players can now place a Sturdy Gatherables Chest with 1,000 slots for materials that remain accessible for crafting even when not in the inventory. New Kuku Cooler (40 slots) and Enhanced Kuku Cooler (330 slots) items support food and ingredient storage with similar remote access benefits. A Collectibles Chest provides another 1,000 slots for quest items and recipes, while the Wardrobe system adds outfit storage up to a 1,000-slot maximum. A new Select House option lets players switch between layouts like Compact House, Standard House, Spacious House, and Spacious Pailunese House based on camp progression. Housing UI and controls have been refined, including a one-click retrieval for all placed furniture.
Other notable tweaks involve combat and economy balancing, such as reduced stat gains from equipment reinforcement, improved cloudcart functionality as a permanent mount, discounted Greymane NPC goods, new tattoos, a lock function for items, and visual and NPC behavior enhancements. These changes collectively aim to create a more polished and engaging open-world sandbox.
