Shinchiro Watanabe's latest project is moving forward. The acclaimed Cowboy Bebop anime director just got the greenlight for his new series Lazarus on Adult Swim. Amazingly, it's a show that's set to feature huge names in Japan and Hollywood.
We all know and love Shinchiro Watanabe as the driving force behind Cowboy Bebop as he led the creative team for the anime. He also helmed notable shows including Samurai Champloo, Kids on the Slope, and Terror in Resonance. However, Watanabe's latest project might be his most exciting one to date.
Variety reported that Adult Swim has greenlit Lazarus, a new anime series that will be part of the platform's Toonami block. Shinchiro Watanabe is confirmed to direct the show for MAPPA while John Wick director Chad Stahelski will contribute several action sequences for the series.

It's exciting news considering that both Watanabe and Stahelski are known for their action-packed projects. As the anime is being produced by MAPPA, it's bound to be a dynamic project that will be a feast for the eyes and other senses.
Lazarus will also feature a major collaboration between saxophonist Kamasi Washington; producer, DJ and musician Floating Points; and producer, DJ and musician Bonobo. The trio will provide a jazz and electronic score for the project.
The report also confirms that Lazarus is already in production and will follow a Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist who develops a drug called Hapuna. Although it is a cure-all, it also has the unexpected side-effect of causing death three years later. This leads to a special force of agents being assembled to investigate.
If you're eager to learn more about Lazarus, we could be getting more details at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con. Shinchiro Watanabe is set to present the anime at Adult Swim's SDCC event Toonami on the Green on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
