After much speculation and a short wait, Netflix has finally revealed that Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) will lead Bridgerton Season 4. However, the series has not yet introduced Sophie, Benedict’s future wife. But with the masquerade ball coming—a pivotal moment that will change Benedict’s life—a new teaser for the upcoming fourth season finally shows the arrival of Sophie, played by Yerin Ha.

The 29-second teaser may be brief, but it’s enough to excite fans with the long-awaited introduction of Sophie in Bridgerton Season 4. Dressed in pink, the "Lady in Silver" exudes class as she carefully examines a set of clothes hanging on a rack. Later, she selects a pair of silver gloves. When she faces the camera, she is revealed to be Halo star Yerin Ha, who will soon be seen as Sophie Baek.

A maid whose mask hides a mysterious identity, her character is teased to have “fascinating depths” that will get the attention of an artist like Benedict. Talking about her role, Ha told Tudum that she was drawn to Sophie because of the obstacles she constantly had to overcome.

“Whether it’s this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict,” she said.

Unlike the debutantes in the ton, Sophie works for one of the most demanding employers in high-society London after being a victim of tragic events. She is a resourceful woman who always finds a way to overcome her circumstances. However, her life is about to change after she disguises herself to attend Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball and meets Benedict in Bridgerton Season 4.

Who is Sophie Baek in Bridgerton Season 4?

When the much-awaited masquerade ball finally occurs, Sophie will take advantage of the invite to transform into whomever she chooses. As she decides to wear a mask, Ha reveals that the important questions Bridgerton Season 4 has to answer are when she will put on the mask to cover her emotions, when she will take it off, and when she will soften up.

“Playing those [questions] is just really fun,” she said.

Thompson also tells Tudum that there will be a dancing scene between him and Ha, though he ends up stepping on her toes. While practicing their steps, he reveals their lessons have been “very special and very vulnerable” as they prepare to step on Benedict and Sophie’s love story.

“The dancing is like an extension of their emotions and a way for them to connect,” Ha explains.

Meanwhile, Ha adds that she has felt a personal connection to her character after being given a Korean surname out of respect for her culture. In Julia Quinn’s novel series, on which the show is based, Sophie’s surname is Beckett. Now, she is named Sophie Baek.

“A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful,” Ha continued. “To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering. All credit to Jess Brownell, our showrunner.”
