All eyes are now on Bridgerton Season 4 after the third season ended on a high note. Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) finally got the happy ending they deserved. Though the show hasn’t revealed who will take the lead next, there are several assumptions on the new couple to tell their love story. So, from the possible production start to the release date and more, here’s everything we know about Bridgerton Season 4 so far.

Ahead of the second season’s release, Netflix already renewed Bridgerton for Seasons 3 and 4 in April 2021. Hence, fans can trust that the journey of love will continue, alongside some scandals and a lot of surprises. As the excitement builds, let’s see what may happen next as we will soon return to the wonderful world of Julia Quinn’s novels.

Who will lead Bridgerton Season 4?

The show’s creators have remained mum about the next Bridgerton sibling who will lead Bridgerton Season 4. Thankfully, the third season finale gave clues on who could take the lead next. The show doesn’t follow the chronological order of Quinn’s books, making things hard to guess. However, Benedict (Luke Thompson), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), and Francesca (Hannah Dodd) are the strongest contenders.

Among the three, Benedict is almost certain to tell his love story. Aside from being the second-oldest son, his novel was skipped to give way to Colin and Penelope, making his story is overdue. The third season dropped a big hint about him taking the lead after mentioning an upcoming masquerade ball, where he’s about to meet his future wife, Sophie, hinting at the start of his romance.

There are also hints that Francesca will take the lead after marrying John Stirling (Victor Alli) in the previous season. In the sixth book, When He Was Wicked, her marriage with John sets her path to meet the love of her life, Michael Stirling. However, as the show introduced Michaela (Masali Baduza), swapping the gender of John’s cousin from a man to a woman, a queer romance is waiting to happen—a first in the series.

As for Eloise, after volunteering to accompany Francesca as she prepares to move to Scotland with her husband, this big change may lead to the beginning of her romantic journey. However, she has already expressed her disinterest in romance, so the focus may be on Benedict or Francesca.

When will Bridgerton Season 4 start filming?

Netflix has yet to announce when Bridgerton Season 4 will start filming, but showrunner Jess Brownell revealed earlier that they were about to finish writing the scripts for the next season. Not only that, but she also teased that it was some of her “best work.”

“I’m really excited about what we’re writing. We’re toward the end with the writers room season with the scripts,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers room’s best work. We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders, so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have.”

In April, Film Updates, a popular movie and TV update account on X, revealed that the fourth season would start filming in June. However, it didn’t provide a source as to whom this news might have come from. So, fans are advised to take it with a grain of salt.

But if the production doesn’t start in June as rumored, it will likely begin later this year. If it happens, the filming process may start in 2025, and the post-production time will follow soon after.

When will Bridgerton Season 4 be released?

As details about Bridgerton Season 4 remain scarce, no release date has been announced yet. It’s also worth noting that Netflix hasn’t been consistent in the release dates of the show, with the first season releasing in December 2020 and the second season following a little more than a year in March 2022. The third season took its time before it finally hit the small screen a couple of years later. The first part was released in May 2024, and the second in June 2024.

However, Brownell also teased in her THR interview that there would be a two-year wait before the fourth season could finally come out. Despite that, she promised they were working very hard to release the new season as soon as possible and detailed the work needed.

“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” she said. “And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we're kind of on a two-year pace, we're trying to speed up, but somewhere in that range.”

If this timeline is followed, Bridgerton Season 4 may finally be released in 2026. Hopefully, it will happen in the first couple of months of the said year instead of summer or fall. Anyhow, fans will surely be patiently waiting.
