Blizzard confirmed in an official forum post that one of its employees is no longer with the company after allegedly using internal developer tools to help a group of friends finish a Mythic+ 23 dungeon in World of Warcraft. The studio stated the individual violated company policy by deploying a restricted spell on a live realm, prompting immediate removal and further action against the involved player accounts.
Redditor Acrobatic_Pianist688 outlined the irregular circumstances of the key in a post. A review of the combat data on Warcraftlogs showed the dungeon should not have timed, as the group still needed to clear multiple enemies from earlier sections even after the final boss was defeated.

The run somehow finished in its final moments when a spell titled “Area Death (TEST)” activated and instantly eliminated every remaining enemy. Regular players have no access to this ability, making clear that someone with internal developer privileges had stepped in to force the completion.
Streamer Yumytv aired an interview featuring one of the players from the group. That participant described contacting a GM friend already present in the same voice chat once the party realized the key was about to fail on the timer.
“I go to my GM friend and say ‘can you do me a solid bro, can you please just one shot?” he said. The player added that the group “meant no harm” by the request and would accept any decision by Blizzard to strip rewards earned from the key.
“I didn’t expect him to do it,” he said of their Blizzard employee friend. “In hindsight, he shouldn’t have done it. He was just doing me a solid.”
High-end Mythic+ content carries significant competitive weight because successful clears unlock exclusive titles, valuable rewards, and ranking recognition. The unauthorized use of development tools therefore raised direct concerns about the integrity of the season’s results.
Blizzard first noted it was examining the situation before publishing a detailed response on its forums. In that post the company explained the limited circumstances under which employees may access internal tools and confirmed the incident was confined to a single individual.
“It has always been the case that a small number of Blizzard employees can use developer tools and spells on live servers: This lets us test and make urgent fixes to the live game when they’re needed,” Blizzard stated. “Every use of these internal spells and commands on live realms is logged and shared with our Platform Security team to help ensure that the occasional use of this access is warranted. The use of development tools for anything other than development work is against company policy. It’s because of the process we have in place around use of these tools that we’re confident this incident was isolated to one individual.”
The studio closed its statement by acknowledging the community’s role in protecting the game. “We’re grateful for the way we work alongside you all to protect the game and each other,” Blizzard said.
