Black Mirror Season 7, the highly anticipated continuation of the dark, satirical anthology series, is now in the works! Just three months after Netflix confirmed its renewal, the streamer has dropped new information, sparking excitement among fans. The season will feature a sequel to the critically acclaimed Season 4 opener USS Callister and is set to be released in 2025.
While the series creator Charlie Brooker and the creatives behind Black Mirror Season 7 didn’t reveal much at Netflix’s recent See What’s Next event in London, they left fans intrigued with a big tease. The story of Robert Daly’s co-workers will continue in a first-ever sequel episode.
“USS Callister will return,” they said. “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.”
Netflix also dropped a brief teaser for Black Mirror Season 7 in a post on X (formerly Twitter), hinting at another set of mysteries fans are about to see. The preview begins by revealing the new season’s “six new stories” while its iconic chilling sounds play in the background. And just before it ends, it reveals one of the episodes will look “a little familiar,” along with its release window of 2025.

What is USS Callister about?
Released in December 2017, USS Callister was the first episode of Black Mirror Season 4. It followed the story of Robert Daly, played by Jesse Plemons, a reclusive but brilliant programmer and co-founder of a famous multiplayer online game. But despite the recognition, he still lacked the support of his co-workers. So, to take out his frustrations, he simulated a Star-Trek-like space adventure within a game and used his co-workers’ DNA to create their sentient digital clones.
Here, he took on the role of a Captain Kirk–like figure aboard a starship, led a crew, and went on an epic sci-fi adventure. As the captain, he abused his role and made everyone follow his orders, bend to his will, and mistreat them if they did wrong. But when he brought the newly hired Nanette Cole (Cristin Milioti) into the game, she encouraged others to revolt against Daly. Daly died in the episode after his crew destroyed the game, leaving his real-world version in a motionless state. And just when everyone thought it would be the last time they would see this crew, their story would continue in Black Mirror Season 7.
What to Expect from Black Mirror Season 7
Details about Black Mirror Season 7 remain under lock and key, so it remains to be seen who among the A-list Hollywood stars will be seen this time. After the previous season featured the likes of Salma Hayek, fans may expect to see another big name lead an episode/s. Of course, it’s also likely to continue its trademark featuring its bold take on speculative fiction, combined with technology and media to address modern social problems.
In addition, with the tease of the USS Callister sequel, Milioti, Michaela Coel, and Billy Magnussen may return to reprise their roles as Nanette, Michaela, and Valdack after entering a version of the video game unmodified by Daly. Though it remains to be seen what story they will tell this time, it will surely be a good one.
After the previous season received mixed reviews due to its change of tone, focusing more on people than technology and futuristic stories than it used to, it may return to its original style this time. With the many issues happening today, who knows, some of them may be explored in the upcoming Black Mirror Season 7.
