In 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield's return as Peter Parker, or Peter 3, sparked immense excitement among fans. But in an interview, The Amazing Spider-Man star candidly shared that he intentionally portrayed the character with a more "messy" edge, adding depth to his role.
Before the film's release, Andrew Garfield's reprisal of Peter Parker had been unofficially hinted at multiple times. However, it was his dramatic entrance through a portal in the movie that triggered an outpouring of fan reactions, both in theaters and online.
Fans were thrilled by the full-circle narrative of Garfield's character as he managed to save Peter 1's MJ, something he was not able to do with his own MJ in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Since then, there have been fervent requests from fans for Garfield to return for a third installment in his own Spider-Man film series.

Andrew Garfield's return to the Spider-Man universe not only delighted fans but also showcased his commitment to evolving the character. So for his return in No Way Home, the actor admitted that he decided to have a little fun with Peter 3. In the new book The Art of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield shared that he had more freedom with the character (via The Direct).
"I felt like the pressure was off, and I was given a lot of freedom to explore and be the irreverent version of the character that I always felt a connection to — to be messy and free and playful and silly. It just felt like a very free, healing experience," he said.
The Art of Spider-Man: No Way Home also features interviews with the two other Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. It also has exclusive concept artwork and insider details about the making of the third film in the recent trilogy.
Spider-Man: No Way Home also featured several Marvel Cinematic Universe characters including Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, Benedict Wong's Wong, and Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan. It proved to be the most successful movie in the trilogy, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2021.
