Ahsoka Director Reveals Key House of the Dragon Season 2 Finale Scene Inspired by Star Wars

As director Geeta Vasant Patel contemplated how to direct Daemon and Rhaenyra's scene in the House of the Dragon finale, she couldn't help but think of Star Wars

House of the Dragon Season 2 has come to an end, setting up a major change in the war between the Blacks and the Greens. Just when everyone thought that Daemon (Matt Smith) would be Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) biggest rival after spending much of the second season in Harrenhal to build his own army, Episode 8, The Queen Who Ever Was, saw him pledging his alliance for the one true queen. Directed by the Ahsoka episode director Geeta Vasant Patel, she revealed Star Wars’ Chosen One prophecy inspired this scene in the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale.

In an interview with TVLine, Patel, who directed Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 7, Dreams of Madness, said Rhaenyra and Daemon’s reunion was one of the pivotal scenes in the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale. However, while thinking about how to direct this sequence, she couldn’t help but see Daemon as the Star Wars Grand Master Yoda as he was set to help Rhaenyra become a hero herself.

“Something that I told myself, thinking about how to direct this, was, ‘I see Daemon as more of a Yoda that has just realized he’s Yoda,’” she explained.

Like Yoda, Daemon has become a spiritual leader by leading an army to support Rhaenyra and trying to boost her confidence. But this doesn’t mean that the King Consort has become submissive. He will lead the fight alongside his wife, and he has no plans of stepping back.

“He’s someone who’s stepping his role, and I thought Matt did that beautifully,” Patel added. “Where he says, ‘You are the chosen one, you can do this,’ it’s not a man talking to a woman. This is someone who has become a hero’s journey mentor, and the hero is Rhaenyra.”

Will there be House of the Dragon Season 3?

Ahead of the House of the Dragon Season 2 premiere, the show has been renewed for a third season. So, despite what many say is an “anti-climatic finale” for lacking intense battles, viewers can expect more action in House of the Dragon Season 3. Fans who have read George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, on which the show is based, probably know what will happen next.

Hence, based on the book, the third installment may start with a huge bang as early as the first or second episode with the much-awaited Fall of King’s Landing. Showrunner Ryan Condal said during a featurette that aired after the finale on Sunday that while the second season was about the “fits and starts” of the war, the third season would be “about total war.”

Will there be Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2?

After a long wait, Lucasfilm finally confirmed that Ahsoka Season 2 is in development during the announcement of the new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, in January. Showrunner Dave Filoni is said to be working on the new season. When the show returns, it's expected to continue where the previous season left off.

Sabine and Ahsoka have switched places with Ezra and Thrawn, as they are now stranded on Peridea while the men are back in the main galaxy. Though Ahsoka and Sabine have already accepted their fates, Ezra may not leave them alone in that place and go on a mission to save them in Season 2. However, while doing so, Thrawn may start to rebuild the empire by seeking out Imperial cells across the galaxy.

As for Patel, she may return to direct a new episode of Ahsoka Season 2, though that remains to be seen. Her work for the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale, on the other hand, proves Star Wars' great influence in pop culture, inspiring several TV shows and movies today.
