The news that Star Wars fans have been waiting a long time to hear is here: Ahsoka Season 2 is officially in development. This news was confirmed by Disney on Tuesday morning when they announced that Jon Favreau will be the director behind a new Star Wars movie titled The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The Ahsoka Season 2 announcement was deeply buried in the movie’s announcement, with Disney revealing near the end, "The Mandalorian & Grogu will lead Lucasfilm's ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2, among those in the works."

Although many speculations suggested that Ahsoka’s Season 2 would eventually come, especially considering Dave Filoni’s latest promotion in Lucasfilm, this is Disney’s first official confirmation of the Star Wars series. Ahsoka Season 2 was previously teased in a Vanity Fair profile that disclosed Filoni’s promotion as Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer.

The profile barely revealed any details at the time, claiming that he had been “exploring” a second season. Later, Rosario Dawson also gave a disappointing update about it. Back in November, the Ahsoka star also said, "For a while now, and especially now with the strike and everything, no one can say anything. But he did say [Filoni] was working on an outline. So, we’ll see.”

What might Ahsoka Season 2 be about?

Dave Filoni has expressed his love for the character of Ahsoka, and how he’ll always have a soft spot for Ahsoka Tano. He was also the one who created the character of Ahsoka with George Lucas in the 2008 Clone Wars movie. When asked about season two of the show, he said that it will be a planet-hopping story that sees our protagonist reunite with old allies and set out on a journey to distant galaxies. According to a Hollywood reporter, the story of Ahsoka will be intertwined with characters from The Mandalorian, and they are set to collide in the future. It is also possible that we see Ahsoka and her friends conclude their stories in theaters.

The next season will pick off where the first one ended, and show us how Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren make their way out of Peridea. Given that Dave Filoni has given us one of the best pieces of Star Wars history with movies and shows like Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian, we believe that he is the best person to create a second season for Ahsoka.
