The galaxy far, far away has an abundance of characters to cross paths over its more than four decades of existence and some go from animated to live-action and vice versa. In the case of the characters in Ahsoka, most of them were from Star Wars Rebels. Making the jump to live-action are Grand Admiral Thrawn and Hera Syndulla, and in Ahsoka, they clashed. Now, creator Dave Filoni is teasing that they will be having a rematch in the future, soon.
The current trend of the Star Wars shows on Disney+ are leading the stories of the New Republic Era. Over time, it has been set up that Thrawn will be the main villain and with his live-action debut comes his encounter with another live-action newbie, Hera Syndulla. Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni spoke at the year-end review issue of Empire Magazine regarding Thrawn and Hera among others. He said:
We set up Captain Pellaeon in The Mandalorian , and that’s a character that goes with Thrawn, so I’d love to see the two of them together. His foil throughout Rebels was Hera. Pitting the two generals against one another is something that I find interesting.
Dave Filoni seems to have been setting up dots to bring Thrawn as the main villain of the New Republic Era and the seeds were planted as early as The Mandalorian through Captain Pellaeon who is known as the right-hand man of Thrawn. In the same interview, Thrawn actor Lars Mikkelsen reveals his motivation in playing the character of the villain, "
When will Hera and Thrawn get a Star Wars rematch?
Looking at the current slate of the galaxy far, far away, it remains unknown when this rematch would happen but there are possible shows where their next face-off would transpire. There is The Mandalorian Season 4 where Thrawn could be setting up the stage for his grand plans and considering how intertwined the journeys are, it is not impossible. There is also Ahsoka Season 2 which remains without any green light but since Filoni already made an outline for it, the possibility of Hera and Thrawn facing off could also be in the series.
In the end of Ahsoka, Thrawn got away from Peridea while Hera welcomed Ezra Bridger back to her side and fight and prepare for their cause against Thrawn. Unfortunately, it was Ahsoka and Sabine Wren who got stuck there.
