One of the many gifts that WandaVision brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the arrival of Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness which remains one of the most iconic villain reveals in the entire franchise. Since then, she became a fan-favorite character that despite her villainous roots, she scored her very own series titled Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Here, she will be joined by a newcomer in the MCU, Aubrey Plaza, and her first look has been revealed in a behind-the-scenes leaked clip.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is one of the most highly anticipated releases of the MCU on Disney+. It already changed its title twice, first being Agatha: House of Harkness, and second being Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Now, the title sticks and Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness will be joined by Parks and Rec alumna Aubrey Plaza who is seen clad in black and fill of mystery as revealed in an official first look clip from @PhaseZeroCB. Revealed in a copyright listing as Rio Vidal, Aubrey Plaza is a much awaited character in the MCU. The official first look clipt for Agatha: Darkhold Diaries was from the WandaVision 4K steelbook which releases tomorrow, November 28th. Here, it shows Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness being in Westview and the same forest seen in WandaVision where Agatha met with her coven and her mother, and she took them out with her abilities from the Darkhold. There is also a scene with Joe Locke who is speculated to play Billy Kaplan.
Who is Rio Vidal, Aubrey Plaza's character in the MCU?
An official copyright listing for Agatha: Darkhold Diaries confirmed that Aubrey Plaza would be playing the role of Rio Vidal. This character is shrouded with mystery as there is no Rio Vidal in any of the Marvel Comics which means that Plaza's character is an original character made solely for the series. Plaza's character is rumored to be a pivotal one in the narrative of Agatha Harkness.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries synopsis reveals that the series will follow Agatha Harkness after being put by Wanda Maximoff under a spell that trapped her in a trance-like state. Harkness breaks out of the spell, wanting to return to her old ways, only to find that she has no powers anymore. Harkness with embark on a journey to regain her abilities through a perilous quest which she will need the help of a friend or two.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is slated for a September 19, 2024 release on Disney Plus.
