Xbox console sales experienced significant growth in the United States during June 2026. The platform stood out as the only major console to post gains while rivals faced sharp declines. This performance marked a notable bright spot amid broader industry challenges, highlighting Xbox's resilience in a competitive landscape.

Mat Piscatella of Circana described it as a "good month" for Xbox hardware overall. Unit sales for Xbox Series X|S grew by 86% compared to June 2025, making June 2026 the strongest month so far this year for the platform. Dollar sales more than doubled year-over-year, boosted in part by the impact of a prior price adjustment that had hurt the same period last year.

Xbox Series had a good June in the US. Units up 86% vs last June, avg price up as well. Highest US Xbox Series units this year. Last June, Xbox Series was seeing impact of the May price increase and the Switch 2 launch. So, big % growth on a smaller base last year. Still, good month for Xbox Series.

Folks talking about Forza, pending price increases, GTA, recent strategic shifts, some relative discounting that happened... sure throw all that in the mix too. But we are still talking about a relatively low base. Anyways, positive momentum is positive momentum.

This level of performance may represent a peak for Xbox in 2026. Upcoming price increases for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are scheduled to take effect at the beginning of August. Even with their year-over-year drops, both the Switch 2 and PS5 continued to outsell Xbox during the month.

The Switch 2 remained the top-selling console in June by both units and dollars despite a steep 78% drop in unit sales from the previous June. Its launch surge in 2025 created a tough comparison, yet it continued to lead the 2026 year-to-date charts. PS5 sales also declined, falling 43% in units and 19% in hardware spending.

Overall hardware spending in the US fell sharply by 62% to $383 million. Declines from PS5 and Switch 2 outweighed Xbox's gains. This underscores the uneven recovery across console platforms following strong launches and market adjustments earlier in the cycle.

Xbox benefited from several factors beyond the easier year-over-year comparison. New features, upcoming exclusives, and strategic announcements helped drive interest. Plans for the next generation, including Project Helix, signal continued confidence from the platform as it navigates component challenges and pricing changes set for August.

Despite the positive momentum for Xbox, the Switch 2 and PS5 still outsold it in June. Estimates place Switch 2 units well ahead, followed by PS5, with Xbox Series X|S showing solid relative progress. This positions Xbox third in the year-to-date standings, but the growth trajectory offers encouragement heading into the later months of 2026.
