Over her thirty years in the business, Halle Berry has played various iconic roles, and one of the fan favorites is probably her X-Men character, Ororo Munroe / Storm. Starting in Bryan Singer’s 2000 film X-Men, she continued to play the role in X2: X-Men United, Brett Retner’s X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Ten years after she last graced the big screen as the powerful female mutant, many thought she would make a cameo in the recently released Deadpool & Wolverine. While it didn’t happen, she now addresses her potential return in the upcoming Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars.
In an interview with ComicBookMovie to talk about her upcoming horror film Never Let Go, Berry was asked if there would be a chance that Storm would be in Doomsday or Secret Wars after not being seen in Deadpool & Wolverine. Now that the X-Men is part of the MCU and Marvel Studios is working on an X-Men reboot film, there’s a big possibility that the franchise’s original actors can make their final appearance before a new set of cast members is introduced.
“You never know,” she said. “We’ll find out.”
There are theories that the X-Men will be part of the new Avengers films and play a major role in The Multiverse Saga. After being announced in 2022, with the Russo Brothers returning to the director’s seat and Robert Downey Jr. set to play the new villain Doctor Doom, Marvel Studios is likely beginning negotiations with the actors who may appear in the two movies. While nothing is confirmed yet, many hope that Berry will be included.
Why is Halle Berry not in Deadpool & Wolverine?
With Hugh Jackman’s return as an adamantium-clawed mutant in Deadpool & Wolverine, many assume that the original X-Men actors would also be seen in the threequel. At the time, there were rumors that James Marsden, Famke Janssen, and Berry would reprise their roles as Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm. Unfortunately, this much-awaited event didn’t happen, and Berry revealed its reason.
In an interview with ComicBook, the 58-year-old star confirmed that she was asked if she would like to cameo in the third Deadpool film. However, though she was open to returning, she wasn’t formally asked by Ryan Reynolds himself, who also co-wrote and co-produced the movie. The question came from the actor’s wife, Blake Lively, instead.
“Blake [Lively] asked me one time, I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, 'Would you ever be in my husband's movie as Storm?' I said, 'Yeah, if he asked me,' but he never asked me,” she explained.
Deadpool & Wolverine has opened the door for the X-Men characters to join the MCU. That said, it may only take a formal invite for Berry to appear as Storm in the Multiverse, and it may happen in Secret Wars before the alleged soft reboot of the MCU.
