Though Halle Berry was open to returning as Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, it wasn’t Ryan Reynolds who asked her.

Deadpool & Wolverine has dominated the box office for several weeks, finally crossing the $1-billion mark globally after its third weekend. By now, many are aware of who appeared in the movie and who did not, despite the numerous cameo rumors before its release. One prominent rumor was that Halle Berry would return as Ororo Munroe / Storm, alongside the other main X-Men members, given that Hugh Jackman reprised his role as Wolverine to lead the threequel with Ryan Reynolds. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen, and Berry has now revealed whether she was asked to be part of the third Deadpool movie.

In an interview with ComicBook at the red carpet premiere of her new Netflix movie, The Union, Berry provided an interesting insight into her non-appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. She confirmed that she was asked if she would like to make a cameo. However, while she was open to returning, the request didn’t come from Reynolds himself, who co-wrote and co-produced the film, but from his wife, Blake Lively.

“No,” she said when asked if there were talks about her return to the movie. “Blake [Lively] asked me one time, I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, 'Would you ever be in my husband's movie as Storm?' I said, 'Yeah, if he asked me,' but he never asked me.”

Though many expected to see the original X-Men in Deadpool & Wolverine, only Channing Tatum's Gambit appeared. The movie includes numerous cameos and storylines, and adding more characters unrelated to the plot could have made it feel overcrowded. While the appearance of other X-Men might have excited viewers, the film ensures that it features enough characters to keep it interesting.

Will Halle Berry’s Storm join the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Deadpool & Wolverine has opened the door for Fox-Marvel characters to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019. Currently, the MCU is in The Multiverse Saga, which is set to conclude with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Just as the previous Avengers movies featured a buffet of exciting cameos, the same can be expected for Doomsday and Secret Wars.

With the end of Phase Six approaching, Berry’s Storm and other X-Men actors could return to join the MCU. This might be the last opportunity for the original X-Men actors to reprise their roles, as Secret Wars is rumored to be a soft reboot of the MCU. Additionally, as Marvel Studios works on its X-Men reboot, a new lineup of actors may take on the roles of the fan-favorite mutants.
